A wierd P800 story |

I went into my local MPC today (leamington Spa,UK), and asked when the P800 would be out here, and at what price. The woman at the counter very rudely said £700! on contract, in a kind of 'you will not be able to afford that voice' (i am 17). I then said that all the other stores in the town gave me a price of £250 on contract, and quoted someone i saw on here, as saying it was available from for £499. She then denied this and told me that no-way was that available for that, as standalone it was going to be £1000. I then asked her to phone and ask them the price. It turned out to be £499. She was still adamant however that she was going to sell it for £700. I said that if she was so sure that she would do this, i would pay her the money right then, as a bet. I have now paid £700, but if it comes out as less (even £699.99) then she has agreed to refund the whole £700 and give me the P800 for free! nice. However, i am slightly FUBAR if it does turn out to be that.... any info?

was this the owner of the shop? the woman at the counter should not have any authorisation to do this, unless she was doing the bet personally, but as the last chap said, if it was an oral contract, she can deny the whole thing, you should go in with a friend as a witness (dont act like your together) and just ask her if the bet is still on so you got proof, or perhaps she was just joking around to get you to buy the phone |

Isn't the shops able to set the price them selves? If she wan't to sell it for £700 then she should be alowed to do so. Sure, probably no one will buy it but SE don't have a upper limit for the price?
£499 is the suggested price from SE but shops could set it higer if they want.
Maybe she(her store) is going to sell it for £700 when it comes out and, if so?, you just paid an extra £200 for the phone. I hope i'm wrong but ya never know

@drbrain you are correct as the RRP is the "Recomended Retail Price" the "recomended" price may well be £499 but the price in that shop could be £700 & it`s up to them NOT SE to set the price. they will wait till he`s got the phone then put the price down to a reasonable level. |
