Never used Wi Fi before need help |

People after recently buying a bargain w705 i have sold both my Samsung Pixon and Nokia 6303 and got a brand new Nokia 5530 Xpress Music phone which has Wi Fi. But i need help. Having never used Wi Fi before i am very confused. At home do i need a wireless router? Also when connecting can i browse for free anywhere or what? I am just so confused by it all. I tried connecting i find something and asks me for a password. Call me thick but i just aint got a clue. Nice phone by the way the Nokia 5530  Great music quality fantastic screen camera not bad at all and build quality better than the 5800.

Wifi's easy enough - you buy a router, connect it to your broadband modem (or some routers actually have the modem part built in) and you then have your very own hotspot at home. By default the router will usually be protected by a password (or "key"), to prevent any random passer-by or neighbour from using your connection, so when your 5530 scans for wifi it will ask you for this, you enter it - usually only the once - and then it will automatically connect from thereon in whenever the wifi is on and the phone is in range.
Away from home, wifi is used all over the place and sometimes you may find a network which is "open" and not password-protected. Sometimes this is intentional, sometimes it's not, but people can still get upset if you access their wifi without their consent so be careful. Lots of coffee shops, pubs, McDonalds etc offer "free" wifi, usually you have to ask for a password (and buy a coffee) before you can connect. Some of these use a national network like The Cloud - http://www.thecloud.net - you either get access to this included with your phone package (iPhone's on O2 can all connect for free for example) or you can pay some silly money for your own personal account with them.

In my experience with wifi routers, the default setting is no password, and you then have to create one.

Make sure you use a good level of encryption because some can be hacked in under a minute.
