Create your S60 Themes
This tutorial (tute) helps ya all to create a theme for s60 phones ( I use 6630 ) from scratch using Series 60 Theme Studio.. Well lets get started first of all u all have to download the following tools I will post the links to the tools along with it so it will b easier 4 ya all? I have tried to make this tutorial as simple as possible?so anyone can create superb looking themes?. Trying 2 create a theme with custom icons will take a hell a lot of time?and I do mean HELL A LOT OF TIME !!!!!!!!!
Required Tools :
1) Series 60 Theme Studio

ya all will have to register then download it ..for 6630 and other series 60 phones
download version 1.2.1 .. for N90/N70 use version 2.0 I used version 1.2.1 since i got a 6600 & N70 and it works fine 4 me?

3) MBMWhizard
used for extracting images out of an MBM file
get it at SF or Google for it.
4) ACDSee - FotoCanvas
any Image manipulation Software .. I use ACDSee - FotoCanvas i was using version 4 i think...so the screen layout may b a bit diffrent but the basics stays the same....

The Tute:
This tute has been divided in to various steps and i have tried my level best to add as much pictorial representation as possible...
1) Ok lets get started fire up SIS Unpacker
2) Hit open and select any theme with cool icons that u like?
3) hit extract..now the 2 file in the sis file is extracted? Close SIS Unpacker we r done with it?
4) Now fire up MBMWhizard ? goto File ..Open
5) Select the *.mbm file that u just extracted from SIS Unpacker
6) Now u see a lot of files ?. All that was packed in to ur mbm file?pretty cool huh? 
7) Ok now there r 2 Select All button?press the one as shown in the figure
8.) Now hit the Save Selected As Bmp?..hit save
9) A progress bar will run and all ur files in .mbm will b saved as bmp in the location selected..
10) Close MBMWhizard
11) Open up the location where ur .mbm files r saved ?now u will see all those nice little icons there? Smile
12) Time to start Series 60 Theme Studio .. Hit create new theme
13) Put in the theme name , author , select BaseGraphics if its not selected?. Then select all?and untick sound..now all will change to custom?.click ok?.go make urself a cup of coffee ? by the time u finish with it?the Theme Studio will b ready 4 u ?
14) Well I almost forgot ..Click Theme -> Properties?..In the Pixel Program put in the Path 2 ur favorite .. Image Editor ..I use Foto Canvas?click OK
15) Click Edit?
16) FotoCanvas will open up?now press shift+s ( this is the shortcut key for resize )?..note the pixel height and width?.in this case ?176 x 208 ?remember this
17) Open the image u want as the background in FotoCanvas?.note that the size of this image is 800 x 600?
18.) Now use the crop tool to select the portion of the image that u want..so that its roughly the multiple of 176 x 208 ( remember this number it?s the actual size that we want?) select the rectangle that u want to crop and double click inside it?.
19) Now u get the selected image alone?
20) Hit shift + s again ? Uncheck maintain original aspect ratio?.put in 176 x 208 and ?.click?. OK
21) Use the SELECTION tool as shown and drag a box around the image? I know that for some of u this will b easy ..but since i am tring to make this tutorial for an absolute beginer ..i am including all these details..
22) And when u leave it the image will b surrounded by a doted box?. Now press Ctrl + C ?( this is for copying the image )
23) Now switch back to Series 60 Theme Studio .. press Ctrl + V ( shortcut 4 paste )? It will b a perfect fit?
24) Click on SAVE?note that the the pic is updated in the small box on top and a tick appears on it?this means its done ?move on to next area?
Likewise u have to do the same for all the sections and subsections shown below..
25) U have to edit each Section and Subsection ..and their subsection as shown above?Told ya all this is gonna b bloody lengthy ?finish all of that move 2 next area icons?
26) Open the location where u extracted the icons?open the one that u want to use as the menu in Foto Canvas?copy it by using the SELECTION tool as in step 21 and follow through step 24
27) Open the location where u extracted the icons?open the icon that is the exact replica of the menu icon that u choose but in black n white in Foto Canvas ?. This is called the mask of the icon ?copy it by using the SELECTION tool as in step 21 and follow through step 24 again??
28.) double click on mask ..press Ctrl + V
29) Save?Repeat the Process for all the icons that u want 2 change?? remember that masks are important 4 the icons ..else ur icons will b in a square..
30) Go on editing all the other things like HIGHLIGHTS , POP-UP-WINDOWS ,etc
31) check out how ur theme is coming up by using checkout??
32) If u wanna fix any thing click on what u wanna edit and double click EDIT?.that particular things window will open up?.edit it SAVE it again don?t 4rget?check it out again?
33) if u r happy with what u have done / if u had enough of editing ? then double click continue?.
34) click OK
35) u will get a message box saying theme creation successful?.u r a few steps away from creating ur own theme?..click on Transfer Theme?select Local Storage Device?.Save ur theme on ur PC
36) Send it to ur Phone?.Post it in the forum..share ur theme with the world?.

Also try www.zedge.com . But i made most of my themes in www.ownskin.com try it. Its an online theme creator. Can create in 3 simple steps.... Peace... | |
