Hi!
which kind of TV is better... lcd, led, plasma
and which make?
A lot of my friends in Japan prefer Panasonic, Sharp then Sony.. but not all of my friends!
I am also think of my SKY Box, dvd/hard disc recorded and my jvc unit for sound, I need to think of all of the scart, sockets etc
Opinions appreciated!

When i bought my Sony lcd the salesmen said if you wanted the tv for gaming go for the lcd and if it was more for films sky hd, blu ray etc go for the Plasma.
I have a sony lcd and a Samsung lcd and out of the two i would say the picture on the Sony is slightly better

As far as I know, plasma screens produce more realistic and deeper blacks with richer colours, however have slower response times than LCD screens, making them more efficient in games. I wouldn't quote me on that though 
I've been looking at the Samsung LE40B550A5 LCD TV which seems to be a complete bargain for £550 on Amazon although you may be wanting something bigger or smaller, or just more expensive  |

LCD screens have a longer life than plasma or even LED. LED has stunning pictures quality though. LCD is better for gaming plus you dont get any burn on the screen. Plasma has slightly higher contrast and colours with deeper blacks. But LCD imo is better overall plus the longer life. I have a 40 inch LG 1080p LCD and its superb in everyway. Just dont buy cheap brands.

Don't be fooled by LED, it's a misleading name.
LED is simply the backlighting, rather an fluorescent tubes; the panel itself is still an LCD.
Don't confuse today's 'LED TVs' with OLED/AMOLED etc. The technology is very different, and the price difference is immense!

Sorry for not mentioning:
-Plasmas can show much deeper, richer blacks, as far as I know; greater contrast ratio for your cash.
-LCD is more expensive technology in comparison to plasma, and it used to be known for its longer life. Whether that is the case today, I can't say.
-'LED TV' can do localised dimming on areas of the screen, increasing contrast ratio. This is not possible with fluorescent tubes.
-AMOLED/OLED will cost you $20,000 for a 15" panel, or something ridiculous like that. They're still being prototyped, not in production as far as I'm aware.

The oled is the best one in terms of performance but if your not bill gates go for a good Lcd (with or without led) (Pioneer, Sony, Philips). There's no comparison between LCD and Plasma now. The LCD technology has been improved in the recent years while most of manufacturers abandoned the plasma technology. Now LCDs have better contrast and black levels, better response time than ever, longer lifespan, they don't reflect light and they produce flicker free picture with far better motion than plasma. Anw go to the shop and get the one that looks better to YOU (regardless of what kind it is).

I been told that plasma screens the gas inside has to be replaced every so often. It does not have same life span as LCD. I seen i 40 inch Samsung LED tv in a Comet store. The picture quality was jaw dropping much better detail and contrast and colours than anything i had ever seen. They showed a disc playing of a polar bear swimming and the detail was immense. I would not buy a plasma myself although i know picture quality is better these days i still prefer LCD. I also would steer clear of Panasonic tv's. I have had nothing but trouble from their past tv sets. A friend of mine did too. They break down after 6 months. The only thing i dont like regarding LCD is motion blur with say watching some fast scenes its not as good as plasma.

The older Plasma screens were the problem but not anymore. Plasma screens are definitely the better choice here for picture quality, their saturation is unrivalled and have less artefacts.
The BEST plasmas are the Pioneer Kuro series. Bloody expensive and soon obsolete but worth it!

Yeah i guess the plasma tech has improved over time. I seen a Pioneer in Curry's it was stunning. Yes they are pricey but you get what you pay for. I heard of too many people buying these rubbish cheap brands like Technika from Tesco or Goodmans Bush and whats the point you dont get the full benefits of what these tv's can do. The cheap brands are more like the old type tv picture quality. |

I had a look at the Pansonic 37v10 with a free BlueRay player worth £270 and a smoky black glass stand for £1348 but the salesman was too pushy with his " The 5 year warranty will change to one year on Saturday, so order it now, and we only have 5 in stock "

Have u tried dabs.com? They're finance deals are brilliant if u don't want to pay it up front. Eg; Buy now pay in 9 months at 0% interest. I've bought my Samsung 37in LCD TV, Samsung DTS/5.1 Home Theater System and my HP Pavilion PC all from Dabs on finance. Alway paid before the 9 months runs out.
Laptop is next as my PC is now 5 years old lol

LED screens by far have the best picture quality it really has to be seen to be believed although still a bit more expensive than plasma or LCD i think they are well worth the extra money |

Costco do 5 year warranty as standard on all TVs Membership is £30, and that'll be instantly made up on your TV purchase. The range is smaller, mind, but it's a good one.
