W380 turns off by itself |

I'm having severe problems with my mothers W380i, the problem is as the title, it shuts itself off. It can happen at any moment, in calls, while texting, while entering PIN, in menus, while connected to the charger etc etc. It's already been in for repair once but obviously it's not helped (have anyone ever had a phone repaired properly?) and now it's in for it's second attempt at repair.
Does anyone on esato have a W380i that works? Or have experienced similar problems to me? To me it's obviously a hardware issue and a design fault (the store I bought it from no longer sell it and told me it's no longer in production, strangely enough it's still on SonyEricssons website) so software shouldnt help, but maybe someone have some other insight.

Hi and welcome
Does the phone have warranty? If so you can get it replace. Another thing i thought of could be the batter that is not properly placed. Maybe loose?

Thank you for your answer tranced.
Yes it's got warranty but I'm reluctant to replace it with another W380 (don't know if it's possible either) and experience the same issues all over again, especially as the store I bought it from more or less confirmed that in their experience, all W380's are like this, which is why they stopped selling them. You raise a good point about the battery but as it turns off even when it's fed power from the wall socket, I'm fairly convinced that is not the issue. Nevertheless, I will try your method when I get it back.
But is it true what the store is telling me? That nobody has a W380 that just works? They seem honest, but maybe they're secret Nokia fanboys...

Lots of members here have got their phones replaced with other phones. So you can have a go there.

@knarkas - Loks like you've been ROBBED matey The salesperson should have told you about the ISSUE on their W380 prior to selling it to . . . you . Well, I just hope that it'll be replaced with a working one, or better yet make an upgrade (another fone model) . |

If I'd bought it for myself I'd have it taken back and replaced a long time ago but I bought it for my mother and she didnt notify me of the problem until after a few months. It's a pity though, I myself have a older (W610) and it's never missed a beat. Did SE fire their QC-team due to the financial crisis...?

the w380 is a low-end phone. seems they don't do too much QC operations with these kind of phones.

If it is an software problem, have you tried updating the phone's firmware???

It's gone through three different firmwares and notes from the repair shop said they'd changed it again (R11-something) but no dice. It's a hardware flaw alright. |

I have W380 which works without problem. My friends has W380 which has stiffed keypads. And I can confirm that not all W380 has that problem...

Nice to hear that Hiron. The repair shop just informed me they sent the phone to SE for replacement, it'll be interesting to see if the new phone exhibits any problems. |

In the whole Sony Ericsson range. Ever used the 'high end handset' the ever so wonderful Sony Ericsson W910? |
