ok, so I've done the Stanford lectures, written a few simple and very very basic apps to understand the function calls etc, read a few other online tutorials but now I'm ready to dive in to something serious

trouble is, now that I've got to this point I'm a bit stumped for "killer app" ideas, and a couple I thought of have already been done, such as an IMDB interface (Movie Genie) and a few others.

so I'm looking for serious ideas from you lot please!

nothing to graphic intensive for my first one... background graphic is fine but nothing like need for speed.
I'd like it to be something that will appeal to all people in all places and not limited to some country specific topic like transport etc.

so a nice simple game that hasn't been done, or some interface to some online data that hasn't been done etc etc

over to you all for ideas!

I've got an idea for you; it's not a simple/fun game but something more serious.

I'm just in the middle of watching a horrific documentary on the recent Victorian (Australia) bushfire disaster and several survivors have commented that when the fire came close, they didn't know which direction to flee. Perhaps a GPS app which tracks the progress of the fire or uses a browser the access updates on emergency services websites? This would be popular among Californians too.

Maybe you don't want to tackle something like this first up, but it was just a thought.

thanks for the interesting idea

in fact one of the outcomes of the last fires was that there was not enough accurate information, and it went out through different agencies that sometimes conflicted, and I believe part of the resolution for that was a more coordinated release of information via

OS 3.0 has APIs to directyl handle maps, but there would need to be a source of information available to me with an XML or JSON (java script object notation) interface, unless I write some sort of web page scraper.

At this point I haven't seen such data freely available with public access, although looking here for last time it seems that google maps had data, though possibly manually entered

Another idea...

I know your a pilot, how about something along the lines of the grocery apps but to mark off pre-flight checks on light aircraft - the confirmation could be sent to a user defined email address and general info about airfields, local regulations and weather conditions etc could be included.

thats an idea I'll look into

I've seen there are a half dozen or more E6B flight computer apps, and also flight planning, but check lists might be something to do.
Of course, each aircraft is different so I'll have to hunt around for a source for those...

I'll do some investigation

thanks (but keep the ideas coming!)

Can't see anything in the App store that relates to Diving.
GPS could pinpoint your location and a database could tell you of the nearest dive spots and what you might find below the surface. Could include pics of exotic fish or whatever. There could be an opportunity for advertising revenue from local diving companies through referrals.

I have read that Apple are looking for people to vote for the best App or something and you can win £10,000 for doing so nice.

Isn't that an O2 competition? You vote and the developer gets the 10G's or something like that.
