Disappointing Compatibility C905 |

First the video mp4s I spent making for my W580i dont play on the C905, now, when I copy mp3 files to the phone it chops them all to no more than 1.5 mins. Wma files play fine. But this is ridiculous-its not se to nokia or anything. No excuse (unless I'm doing something wrong with the mp3s) |

sounds like your phone needs to be unbranded

Would love to debrand - but I've seen some scary sites that offer instructions though.
Well, another thread does outline the difference between the mp4 standards for the c905 and the w580i -- apparently there is a difference in what each can play. I also learned of the alternate settings for converting video files to mp4 and I've had some success (for avi or DVD, M3 is quirky; for DVD only, DVDFab works OK, but now it's giving error messages).
But the mp3 thing; what the hell is that? I've never had trouble with mp3 files PERIOD. Not with my daughter's little mp3 player; my car stereo; the w580i, PC. I *did* manage to copy two lengthy mp3s over last night which play full-length - perhaps I should use the PC suite or something. Right now, I'm just dragging and dropping (into the video and music folders) using plain old 'My Computer' and the phone's 'mass storage' mode. Perhaps the weirdness of cutting each file down to 1mb was due to copying multiple files to multiple locations on the phone (I was moving video files AND the mp3s at the same time). So, I'm not sure if this is a consistent problem or not. I'm traveling to the UK for a couple of weeks and want to use my phone over there (actually I'll be taking the c905 and the w580i -- both branded.) If this it helps to make a case for debranding please let me know how it's done, or point me to a reliable site to look to to follow (I've asked about this around here before, but even the independent guys wont debrand - they tell me at&t will unlock if I tell em I'm traveling; but no-one wants to debrand). Would at&t's stamp on the phone affect video/mp3 file playback?
Many thanks,

how does transfering using wifi or bluetooth effect the mp3s?

I dont have a wifi or bluetooth device, so I don't know about those methods of transfer. I'll try again tonight with multiple files; as I said, one or two at at time DID seem to work properly - i.e., the mp3 retains its correct size.
The issue occurred when I moved a whole folder of mp3 files using Windows explorer and phone's mass storage mode, but I did this without emptying the contents of the folder first, could this be the problem? On the phone, every mp3 was reduced to 1.0, 1.1, or 1.2 mb in size. All files played, but only for 1 min and 26 or 27 or 28 seconds and so on.
It's the strangest thing I've seen with mp3 files. And the first ever problem I've had with this format. Is there a setting in the phone that I should change perhaps? Seems like the phone thought these files were for ringtones - judging by the length. I deposited the folder with the mp3 files in it straight into the phone's 'music' folder. But, the folder I copied over is gone, and only its contents show up -- the truncated mp3 files. Wma files are ok, but I literally do not have time to convert my whole mp3 collection to wma. Will re-test.
Hey, Daviep, I captured a photo/jpeg from a movie I converted (I used DVDfab to mobile and changed the output file's extension from .m4v to .mp4 manually) I found that this turns a non-playable file into a playable one! I didn't use M3.
This jpeg photo shows the quality I'm used to and what I'm trying to get. Lemme know if you want to check it out.
The only problem with this DVDfab to mobile conversion method is:
i) letterbox shows on most movies
ii) no option to change aspect ratio or remove the letterbox though
iii) had an error last night (perhaps an unfinalised disc), and now it refuses to 'do its thing' - maybe I have to reload it.
Man, the issues I'm having with this new phone, I tell ya. Not fun.
I'm leaving the country next month. I need a 16gb M2 stick stuffed with playable movies for the trip - as well as a 4gb back up. There aren't enough hours in the day to convert everything AGAIN (I've already amassed a library of .mp4 files, but these only play on the w580i - as we've discussed.)
Wrong mp4 'standard' I've read. Ridiculous. What plays on one SE should certainly play on another - especially if its a better model..........you'd expect it to do everything the weaker phone can do, and more. At least that's my expectation. Having to re-code all these .avis and DVDs is rough; and now this music issue? It's just one mobile media disaster after another. All I want are my movies, a 16gb M2 stick, and my headphones!!
Thanks for any help, previously given or forthcoming, fellow phone lovers!

Dude,c905 supports up to 2mbps mp4 videos with 128kbps aac dual audio,1.6mbps wav files,320kbps mp3 fraunhofer codec and many other files without any problem...
Why don't you try total video converter? Is better than a lot of "any-file-to"...
And,as anybody will say, debrand and update your phone.
Cheers and nice week.

Media Coder should be a nice choice too for converting your multimedia files. It offers large collection of converters combined in one application. (supports video and audio) Also it has some predefined settings for some devices (like PSP and etc...). Try it, it should work for you.

Thanks a lot for the tip on media coder, strizlow800. How's the output quality- DVD or simply 'better than 3gp'? And can you confirm it works for a c905? Cos other apps worked great too....for my W580i but the mp4s they make wont play on my c905.
Later......
Just checked out the screenshots from media coder - I'm assuming you refer to the mobile version of the software right?
Obviously this means nothing, but the interface looks good; if only that were an indicator of quality!
I was unable to see any posts specific to the SE C905 on their forum though. Can you verify whether media coder includes the c905 as a device option among its selection of cell phones (strizlow800/anyone?)? I can't download the program for a while - still at work.
Thank you,
Tom

Media coder site not functioning, cant download it. Anyone a) had good mp4 conversion results with it -from DVD, avi? b) know if the c905a is supported by it? c) know of an alternate download site? Yes, I'll google it. But, I've only got 27 days to fill a 16gb m2 stick with mp4 movies for my c905! They each take 3hrs using a DVDfab workaround, and I cant get rid of the damned letterbox. Where are you mysh? M3 rocked when it worked. I made an entire library of DVD-quality mp4 video.....at the wrong mp4 standard for my 'better' phone. Why cant the latter recognise mp4 that work fine on the W580i? Grrrr. Sincere thanks in advance to anyone who replies. Tom |
