Sony Psp Go to compete with Apple Iphone this Fall |

Sorry, if this is already in other forums but I just want to ask if I'm the only one sad about this. It is just that it could have been a good competitor of Apple Iphone if it's a Psp phone and can you guys, give me the reasons why can't Sony share the playstation brand with SE? They have shared cyber-shot, walkman, and bravia for years now but why are they taking so long to share the brand that would most likely sell millions of unit. I know Aino would have a PS 3 integration but it's just not enough.

for one, sony had started sharing the WALKMAN brand when walkman was on a steep decline... it was a company effort to put the brand to stay alive...
CYBERSHOT branding was made when SE used SONY cybershot components, codings and hardware configs into phone, that is the reason of the branding
BRAVIA phones are available only in JAPAN, because, in japan TV in cellphone is most popular and hot thing... BRAVIA branding handsets are specifically for that...
so, in order to get PSP brand handsets, the market should be correct and feautures should be correct... there is no point in just labelling a phone as PSP and selling it, if it isn't a high-end portable gaming device... upto standards of a PSP
recently, SE announced entertainment unlimited because by now cybershot and walkman brands have sunk into SE image and people have come to expect best of camera and music from their respective brands... entertainment unlimited brand will give best of camera and walkman.... its a new branding under SE...

no its not..
PSP is strictly a game device...
skype is added funtionality
PSP will be high end phone that can match gaming capabilities of PSP... but it will be phone first
the biggest hurdle in this type of merger is battery... it has to be very powerfull to play high end games and also talk for 6 hours non-stop..

Sorry. why don't the just take a PSP and ad a simcard to it ? That wouldn't be to difficult , then you'd have a huge phone , but a great game / video / music device .

That's what I'm whining about. Why can't they add a sim card in it and other things like cam module and others. If they can't share it with SE then brand it as a pure Sony phone. SE is really in trouble right now and Satio, Aino, Yari isn't enough to make the customers come back. And also I don't think that SE would have a problem in the battery because that's where they're good at.( Although my T610,T630, K608, k610, and G700 don't really impress me a lot about the battery performance.) |

Why not ask Ken Kutaragi (creator of playstation) about it?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
you really believe these batteries would power a playstation phone???
all the music, video and gaming?????
and the PSP is too bulky for a phone... aint it????
and maybe, SONY doesnt want to dilute the brand PSP, after all its right at the top now... isnt it..
its going after Nintendo DS...
1.“In the past, we have been keen that our product proposition lives up to brand promise, and we feel at the moment the technical specs are not high enough to put such a prestigious brand on a phone,” said a spokeswoman for Sony Ericsson.
2.The PlayStation is definitely one of Sony’s premier brands that not only marks hardware, but software as well, which is why it is unlikely that the company wishes to license it for a range of devices and software types. Moreover, considering the fact that PlayStation Portable console already supports phone calls via Skype, the next-generation PSP may easily obtain a SIM card, especially keeping in mind that Internet connectivity is becoming a compulsory feature for almost any consumer device these days.
3.In the past Sony have stressed that a PlayStation-branded phone could only exist independently from the mobile phone maker.
4.in a recent interview with Financial Times, Sony Ericsson’s president Hideki Komiyama have hinted that a PlayStation branded phone could actually be back in their agenda afterall. “If we do not adapt to this new technology or new market environment, we’re going to lose”, the Sony Ericsson head suggested.
5.
there we go...
its a 50/50
if they start making a PSP phone,
expect it feature sub-PS1 or PS2 gfx and not-too-great battery
and a good 2-3 years to hit all shores

They don't have much of a choice. The iPhone 3GS with it's gaming capabilities and app store is a formidable opponent to Sony's PSP. Either release a PSP-branded phone soon or let PSP slowly die.

iphone will never compte againt PSP because PSP is a complete gaming phone
iphone hasnt got much gaming features, just loads of interactive games....
no dedicated buttons, nothing of high-gfx games that PSP has
plus, PSP has all major titles... iphones just has tamer apps...
nope, iphone will not kill PSP
PSP is doing fine by its standards, it is just competing against nintendo DS....
that is the main contender...
PSP is a very high brand, like Walkman was once... and bravia is still//
that's why bravia has been already released in japan, but nowher
because only in japan do they have good pocket TV...
so, bravia handsets there make total sense...
PSP brand handsets should have -
1.High end gaming capabilty, that is dedicated procesor and GFX chipsets
2.RAM boost over current phones
3.Robust battery life
4.a suave design, and not a bulk of a phone
5.interest in the market
i dont think people will buy a costly handset just because it has PSP branding,,, they'd rather buy PSP and a phone...
as for hardware, as said, the right hardware for that type of phone isnt available yet.
supposing SE gets the branding, or SONY announces making the phone
it will a few years, say 2-3 before they come out with complete PSP based phone
before that, i dont think they will come out with any handset branding PSP jut in order to compete against another handset
rather they might take a different game brand, or in current F-serie, introduce new good phone...

i cant see them bringing out a 'PSP' phone of any kind. The reason? Well ask someone on the street what handheld console they would have if they had a choice and 9/10 ppl would tell u a Nintendo DS. Why? well they have sold that many that the majority of the buying public just think its the best as it sells more.
Plus the DS has such a huge collection of games and, just like the Wii, is quite innovative in its use of the touchscreen. Yes the PSP may have the better graphics and some amazing games but so does the PS3 and Xbox 360 yet the Wii outsells them both many times over. All because Nintendo make it easy to play and most of all FUN to play!
Best thing Sony can do is keep the PSP brand as a games console and not a hybrid phone/console and concentrate on getting the quality of their handsets to that of the old days and rise again!
