Phone with the best signal strength/RF performance? |

At work we've just moved to a new unit and new wards, and unfortunately it seems that whatever they built the place out of impedes mobile signals pretty badly!
I have a couple of phones, my HTC Touch Diamond will just get a very weak signal right next to a window on certain parts of the ward, and my P1i works a bit better and gets a signal a little further into the building. An old Samsung E250 is pretty bad, almost no signal anywhere in that building.
What are the best performing phones signalwise currently out? Doesn't matter if they're a slightly older model, but would prefer it if they have 3G and/or Edge, but preferably HSDPA also.
Alternately, short of getting an external aerial is there much I can do to improve signal performance? I know you can get these signal strength 'boosters' but they're pretty rubbish!

If you had a BlackBerry you could get a direct RF reading

Thanks Mweb, also seen a recommendation that the Samsung G600's good for signal performance, is that true?
It's just that these are quite cheap at the moment, the V8's still seem to be going for around the £100 mark whilst I can get a G600 for £50 or less.
My neighbour's also offering me a Viewty quite cheap, these any good RF wise?

I'd also recommend a Moto, could be an older one aswell.
As for the Samsung and LG, in general, both brands are not exactly known for their good reception in "difficult" places, it's alot less than with a SE or Nokia, so I wouldn't buy any of those without testing, I suppose, your neighbour will let you test the Viewty ?
Maybe you could test the G600 too ? Could be, one of those two is in for a pleasant surprise .
Dunno, whether you use the internet on your phone much at work, but did you try to use GSM instead of 3G ?
Reception of GSM1800 usually is as poor as 3G inside buildings, but the "old" GSM900 does this alot better.
This also depends on the network you're with, I know, "3" only has 3G, Orange and T-Mobile use GSM1800, but, like in the Netherlands, the older networks, O2 and Vodafone in the UK, might still use GSM900.
