Turns out my phone had water damage (didn't know because I bought it 2nd hand). So Sony Ericson won't repair it.

They want £11 ($18) to get my phone back.

Ever heard of this? What is your experience of warrenty repairs? My experience has been good so far (repaired my w550i 3x, a k750i once, but this c902 not happening)

Should I refuse to pay it and ask for the phone back? Or should I just pay it?

Did they fix it or is the 11 quid just a fee to send it back?

You should have read or have been informed prior to sending your phone. Any fault found that is not covered under warranty will be charged for and also they can charge you a fee for returning your phone to you (£11) if it is discovered that the fault is caused by the user eg, neglect, water damage etc

The only authorised Sony Ericsson repair center in the UK is Khune and Nagel. I take it this is where you sent your phone ?
I tried sniffing coke once but didnt like it. The bubbles kept going up my nose

That's cheap, though. In the Netherlands, repair centers charge 39 euros (33,59 GBP) for "investigation".

Bloody Dutchies always want more money. I heard they invented copper wire whilst fighting over a cent coin.

This is a charge to just return the phone unrepaired.

There's a few things that are a bit different to most repairs.

- I sent the phone off straight to the Appletree road address thinking there would be no charge if not covered by warranty because all I had was the address
- I bought the phone 2nd hand, speculating that it would be repairable because there was no info to support water damaged. So, in a way it's not my fault it's damaged because the seller didn't tell me about any water damage. But I can't get a seller for not telling me a piece of info

It's a bummer. I'm sending off a cheque now.

When it gets back I have 3 options:

1) Fraudulently sell the phone without telling the poor sod that it's water damaged (not an option)
2) Crack it open & clean with flux like I used to do in my job repairing PS2's
3) Sell it for someone who needs a new screen

I think I'll try 2, then 3 if that doesn't work. Hopefully the loss will only be about £40 :/

The lesson in all this is, keep your phone away from water! Quite a good reason to buy a waterproof phone eh?

Do you want the phone back? What use is it now?
If you want it back then yes, pay the fee because it is reasonable.
