Sup people.
I'm considering a return to speed, efficiency, and elegance with the phone. My sights are set on the W995a & the W705a (although Satio may be in my pockets too).
Taken a look at my old bookmarks and found this thread here:
Best Applications for your Phone...
Of course the standard applications are mostly used by almost ever owner of SE phones ...
Opera Mini, eBuddy (or like full IM app), YahooGo (or better community/search/email/im app), and Google apps (Gmaps/gmail/gsearch/etc). Personally I like the built-in NetFront browser because I can sync the bookmarks in folders I prefer with Firefox on my PC.
However I wanted to see what your suggestions are for others and ourselves to discover ... see how far flash/j2me apps have evolved over the past 2yrs.
What do you have running on your SE phone? What gives you power/play daily on your SE phone? Shout out.
1- Opera Mini 4.2
2- ebuddy 1.1
3- Mig33
4- Yahoo Go!

Why make use of that application if A2 supports Push mail natively? |

Thanks everyone for the great selection.
What does 'vTap' do actually?
Also which apps allow you to sync your data to the PC or OTA to a solid server just in case you wish to upgrade to another A2 phone??
(W995 = A2 phone right?)

Hi Prom1
What made you decide to use a phone that's not speedy, efficient & elegant anyway
There are a lot more Java browsers to choose from today. Some favorites in our country are UCWeb, Bolt, and Teashark. They compress data in their own servers for speed and bandwidth just like OM but still, OM, especially 3.xx mod and 4.x, outclasses them all in terms of page rendering, feature set, and overall appearance.
There is also Minuet browser which to me has a special lo-fi 80s sort of charm, like an Atari mobile browser if such a thing were able to exist back then.
The browser i use most often these days is Opera Mobile Finger Touch. It's addictive but it's UIQ so it doesn't count...
For data backup it's still the good ole combination of MPE & M2 card. I've moved all the contents of my A100 (K610) to G900 in a few minutes. Moving them to an A200 is even faster.
- Oxford Concise English Dictionary. More comprehensive than a pocket dictionary.
- Mini Commander. Once you get used to it, your feature phone will feel crippled without it.
- ReadManiac. You can read short stuff using other programs but if you've got Les Miserables or those Tolstoy novels in text format this is what you need. |

@chili, I hear you about mini commander. It gives the phone the kind of file manager every device ought to have by default (atleast for those of us who actually USE our devices, as opposed to those who simply take the spoon fed content operators offer)
I use Oxford Dictionary also, I wonder if Oxford gifted this to mobile users or whether some champion out there knocked it up themselves.

Hi Max, I don't think a file manager as good as Mini Commander will ever be a standard in feature phones (or even smartphones). I noticed that manufacturers tend to dumb things down according to 1) what they think the average call-text-camera-music-video user will do (they're usually right about this) and 2) what they know is generally acceptable but limited file access, which is a guarantee against accidental deletion of system files.
The manufacturers are right because I've installed Mini Commander on some of my friends' phones and they never used it as it should be. In case you're wondering, yes, most of them are females.
In many ways Mini Commander is better than even Swiss Manager Free and other file managers for smartphones which tend to be bloated and tacky. The dual panel, the command on how to quickly set the folder in the other panel, the copy/cut/paste shortcuts, the customizable scrolling speed, the ultra-flexible text editor that would put most other dedicated text editors to shame, the changeable color schemes, the minimalistic but no-nonsense feel of everything about the program. Too bad it doesn't run well on the G900 due to the different keypad layout, and because it's not really meant for touchscreen devices.
Concise Oxford English Dictionary is a classy program. Technically efficient and literate in content. It even provides etymology and with this root-focused approached, it will remain a relevant program in your phone for many years to come.

Nice Nice!
Thanks for the great information guys.
Max, chili, or anyone ... any suggestions for a powerful calendar/to-do/appointment/memo application that can augment (for syncing) the system calendar functions?
I'm aware of seperate alarm programs but not calendar ... this my friends is the ONLY weakness SE feature phones have - besides higher resolution video recording.

haven't come across any todate. I tend to make basic entries on the phone and flesh them out in outlook later (after synching) so didn't notice any shortfall there.
