Hi! I just bought a Sony Ericsson W715 and i wondering if i can use Java-applications on Wi-Fi? It seems like the phone only connects to GPRS/UMTS/HSPA when using java-applications.

When surfing the net with the built-in browser it works fine on Wi-Fi.

I'm wondering because i don't have flat rate taxes on GPRS/UMTS/HSPA.

Thanks.

hi

you first connect to the wifi hotspot and then use the application. if you dont want to use gprs/edge/umts just change some parameter at the internet profile

i've used opera mini over wifi

I don't find any settings to change to "force" any applications/games to go on Wi-Fi. Can you please help me to find it?

I only find settings to change Online Profile wich only contains my operator APN and such.

Just go to Settings >> Connectivity >> Internet settings >> Allow local connection ON.

Now first you have to connect to Wi-Fi before use Java ...

Why must we connect to WLAN before launching Java? Doesn't the J2ME able to use the built-in phone's API's? If it can detect a 3G connection then why not WLAN?
This is not looking good for my W995 purchase.

I still dont get it to work. I've deleted my settings for gprs and enabled Allow local connection. Im connected to wi-fi before I start java, but opera mini still dont wont be able to connect.

Edit: The online-account wasn't able to be empty. I just put som randomly chars as an account and enabled local connection. Then it worked fine. Thanks for the help.

Looks VERY nice and FAST > just as good as working on N85.
Looks like I'll be coming back to and happily ... but I need a more powerful calendar.
