Hello.

I have a W300i phone I bought almost 2 years ago.

It has been a year now since my phone started behaving strange when I pressed the navigation keys (down and left), as well as any of the side keys (play, side up and side down).

What happens is when I press any of those keys nothing happens. At first it might seem that there is some hardware issue with those keys but turns out that if you start pressing keys around, for example navigating through the phone menu, for some time those keys get back to working. No need to push harder or nothing, they just get back to their original functional state.

If you leave the phone still for a while when you get back the keys are not working anymore.

I have contacted Sony Ericsson support for three times.

The first time the support agent ended up telling me that my phone had an issue that could only be solved by sending it to repair. I did not send it to repair since the phone was working as expected except for the weird behaving keys.

The second time I got in touch with them was a couple of months later, right after I bought a 2G memory card. This time the agent gave me two options he said could solve the problem. The first one was to turn the phone off, remove the battery then wait for a couple of minutes. Before reinserting the battery he told me to hold the C key for around 15 seconds, and only then release the key, insert the battery and turn the phone back on. The second option was to run SEUS and force a reinstallation of the firmware.
Since I was using a Mac at that moment, I chose to give a try to the first option only. Turns out that after I executed that somewhat weird procedure, my phone started behaving normally for 5 days in a row. No locked keys for that time.
However after those 5 days the keys got back to the same behavior.
This time I tried to run SEUS in a windows box and give it a try. When I was about to start the reflasing procedure I noticed that SEUS was stating that "Your phone already has the latest software (R3BA002)" while my phone's current software version is R4EA031.

I found that discrepancy a little strange and was when I got in touch with the support the third time.
This time I focused on the problem regarding what SEUS was telling me. The agent was unable to explain why that happened, and the only solution for me, obviously, was to send my phone in for repair because my phone was refusing to communicate correctly with SEUS.

I thought this statement completely out of purpose and I really believe there must be some bug with SEUS.

Anyways, I was unable to reflash my phone's software using SEUS, and I still have the strange behaving keys on my phone.

I would like to know if anybody has experienced any of the problems I described above, either the SEUS problem or the strage behaving keys problem.

I'm seeking for a solution for I really like this phone and I want to have those keys back working as expected!

Thanks,
André.

Looks like a proper : se: to me. maybe a good cleaning can do the job. Can you open it up? About SEUS, is it branded? try again?

I could open it but I don't know how yet.

Do you have any how-to link I could refer to?

Regarding SEUS, my phone is not branded. I bought it unbranded from an authorized SE reseller.

Also, I just found another weird thing while trying out pressing keys.

Whenever I press a working key (e.g. C) and altogether press the non working keys, misteriously the 'non working' keys work!

This happens everytime. If I am in the main menu screen for example and I press the right soft key and keep it pressed, joystick down and left keys work very well just like any other. If I release the key being pressed and keep trying to press the non working keys, they behave like they are failing!

This behavior gives me the idea that this is not related to cleaning though!

Any ideas?

I really want to make this back in shape!
