I am about to change my phone and I was hesitating between the W995 and the N96.
I need your expert advise before the big jump!
Thanx in advance.

Could you post the requirements you have in mind for the new handset? That would really help people recommend a choice. |

...title has a typo. I understand, the black w995 does look like the n95-8GB

I've been using a Nokia 6110 Navigator for the last couple of months, but I had a w800i for years before that.
I loved the W800i. It is like a Swiss knife. It does everything I need (execpt wifi and GPS). I don't find the same easy feeling using with the Nokia 6110...
PS1: Yes there was a typo! I meant N96!
PS2: My requirements are everything that a mobile phone can have!
I mainly need : Good camera, Wifi, Torch lamp, Gps, music player... and eventually good phone features!

I can't believe i am doing this..
If you were to compare two phones a Nokia and an SE the N96 is not the best choice. Its much better to choose between the N86 and the W995 as they are basically the same phone different company. |

Camera- N96 (even thought its 5mp)
Music player- W995 (slicker looking)
Music quality- N96 (music chips)
Screen- N96 (larger screen)
Interent- N96 (better web browser)
Looks- W995 (looks metal)
Memory- N96 (flash memory)
User interface- W995 (logical and praticle)
Photo gallery- W995 (slick)
Video player- N96 (faster and more options)
Organiser- N96 (smart phone)
Games- N96 (Ngage)
Winner N96
Personally i would fo for the W995 even though the N96 is better in every way. |

If you liked the W800i then you'll love the W995. The UI is a breeze and you'll enjoy the extra features.
There is no replacement for actually trying the phones out yourself in store though so do that if you can.

Apparently you've never used a N96, it looks great on paper, when compairing specs, but it's a disappointment in daily use, and I mean real use, not only calling and texting : it lags, hangs, Mobile TV isn't working most of the time, cam (though also 5 mp) is not as good as the cam in the N95 and these are only a few of the let-downs, which made my brother-in-law sell it after 4 months (in which it was 3 weeks away for repair twice). He's now happily using his trusty N95 8GB again .
I'd advise snoopa to consider the N86 instead.

Err, for audio quality check out the gsmarena charts. Its supposedly the best sounding phone in the market right now. The w995. So anyone else who says that a nokia sounds better is BS. |

Depends what you want in a phone as the Nokia is a smartphone but personally I would go for the W995. The N96 is a poor phone

i would NEVER EVER just depend on GSMArena charts to judge audio, i know this from passed experience, find an audiophile site or something.
Overall id get the N96, simply because when it comes to Video, web browsing, gaming, software and even firmware support wise it does and will crush the W995. The N96 on latest firmware seems be a lot better and Nokia have added some sweet little bits to it, so if you get it update it IMMEDIATLY, great thing about the current S60s is that they get regular OTA Firmware updates, and also have UDP (1st brought in by 3250, then brought back by N81 and N82 and to all FP2 phones) so doing a FW update is just simple, Update and get straight back to what you were doing, no more backing up and all that crap.

what you say about the W800i is the same what i feel ,got the W800i 4 years now and still i like to use it much more then my P1i .
i think the W800i was the best SE ever made (together with K750) ,not only that it did all you need, it did it much better then expected. all my friands love my W800i the volume is so strong that i can never listen more the 90% of it and the bass is so strong that my ears move. my friend has the W902 and it is a shame to compare it to the W800i. |
