Hi everyone,

Since this morning, my messaging app has started to hang. It started by trying to send a sms from my notes and it just froze. Ending the task did not help. I restarted through the power switch and did the same thing again and it hung again. I restarted for the 2nd time and went into sms app and it would not open up. It shows the "messeging" title but that's it.

I haven't updated the phone nor have I installed any apps. It's been quite a long time since I did that. Nothing new in the phone either. Messages count in the inbox is around 800 messages and in the send folder is about the same. But i have had more messages like 1000+ in each folder.

Now I can't get in to delete or create! BTW, other apps work sometime and sometime they just won't work!

What do I do now???

Thanks.

i think you should try a master reset. remember to un check the remove the third party tools during reset so that you dont loose any user installed applications.

IMP: before you do a master reset, do take a back up of the phone if possible./ alternatively, sync it to outlook or what ever PIM software you use so that after the master reset, you can get all your contacts back. synching will delete all your txt msgs and mails in the phone.

i had a problem with my P1i last month, i was downloading some mails and it froze up on me. I restarted using the power off switch, the phone restarted but i lost all the data in my internet accounts. i had to master reset and put back all the data like contacts and the email accounts. i managed to do it because i used to sync my phone with outlook almost daily. but i did loose all txt msgs that i had sent and received.

hope this helps, please let me know the result and if your phone comes back to normal again

Thanks None2One for your reply. I was thinking of the master reset but was looking for a workaround. Anyways, I did manage to resolve the problem. I restarted the phone, got into messaging by chance and deleted all of my sent folder which was 680 odd messages. Then I cleaned of the inbox and reduced it down to 200 or so... now it's normal again!

The best, though most painful thing to do, would be to back-up all your data using MyPhoneExplorer, and then do a total master reset. (I would do a SEUS "update anyway" procedure also...just in case) Don't back-up using SE PC Suite, especially settings - may lead to some corruption. When you are finished with setting your phone to your liking, just import data back from MPE.

Thanx theos for the suggestion. I will however continue at the current state and see how far I go (I will backup immediatly using MPE). If it so happens that it breaks in the middle, I will do a master reset!

I can't get myself to go through with the whole procedure just because of the amount of time needed to install all the apps, adjust the settings and else, but I have myself to blame ( too manu mods that I don't need applied :) ) BTW, you should keep inbox folder empty, and create other folders for read/sent messages. It speeds up things a bit in everyday operation... I did the same with contacts and calendar items...

@theos: i can understand keeping inbox empty and creating other folders for read messages.
however, isn't there a separate folder for sent messages already present in the P1i?

also, what do u mean by "I did the same with contacts and calendar items..." what exactly did you do? can you please elaborate?
thanks
