I did ask this on the C905 FW thread, but I think it got kinda lost

Did anyone successfully update their C905 firmware to the R1DA... using the FOTA update service?

Has anyone managed to do a successful FOTA so far during 2009 on any of the newer phones, or are we basically now reliant on the SE Update software, and doomed to forever have to reset all our specific contact settings, replace our dictionaries & re-download apps/games etc?

Also, if FOTA does still work, approx how long after the FW release is it before you can get the upware vis FOTA?

It's network dependant AFAIK, my network provider doesn't support it.

it never worked for me. I'm still with R1BA034 (1205-9079) and it keeps telling me i have the latest version.
And i have an unbranded C905 (i got it end of October 08), and no pc to try SEUS.

SE takes ages to release new firmware using the OTA method. It's the method you want to use though (assuming the menu option is there, as it may not be on some network branded models, and you have a suitable data plan) because it's a patch and means your data remains intact.

When will SE release a proper backup tool for their handsets, to securely back up all the necessary files so you can transfer applications and games back when you've done an update? At the moment, you can back up elements and I'm not even sure the phonebook backup retains things like contact photos!

well, it didn't when I updated to the R1DA, even though I did back up everything (as far as I could)

You'd think, with their business kinda going a bit tits up, SE would pay some attention to things like this - the firmware updates wiping all your data etc, and do something about it rather than ignore all the forums & pretend everything is hunky dory!

none of the apps on the phone now work - including Opera, Walkmate, AccuWeather & Wayfinder

looks like I'll have to reload using SEUS after all

the apps were all still there, but were dead, unresponsive - basically I got "operation failed" everytime I tried to access one.

Have now re-installed the update via SEUS, and the apps function again

Don't think you're doing anything wrong, I think it's more a case of FOTA being f*cked & SE can't be arsed to do anything about it

Imagine if you had to reload your entire O/S & all your software etc everytime Microsoft or Apple issued an update - there'd be outrage & they'd lose customers at an alarming rate

quite why SE decided to change SEUS from patching firmware to completely replacing it is beyond me

And why it's never occurred to them to give options -
1) update firmware
2) reinstall firmware

is completely baffling. I guess they just don't give a flying
