Sony Ericsson Brings The Most Advanced Mobile Java Platform to the entry 3G segment |

San Francisco, Calf. – June 3, 2009 – Sony Ericsson today announced plans to extend its mobile Java™ Platform into its entry 3G mobile phone portfolio. This means that games, applications and content developed on the Sony Ericsson Java™ platform will provide a compelling business opportunity for developers who can now extend content creation for consumers in the entry 3G segment, widely recognised as a future growth area of the market.
“Sony Ericsson has made significant investments in the development of its mobile Java Platform, which has enabled an exceptional user-experience and consistent performance. Sony Ericsson has enjoyed significant success with feature-rich 3G phones due to the richness and consistent performance of Java™. If this is an important element of SE's business strategy going forward then I hope they have a plan B because I can't see this making a dent in the iPhone's domination of the App market.

should compete .sis applications & its surroundings....

this fields.

Not sure why you bring IPhone into this. The pressrelease says "entry 3G mobile phone portfolio" and last time I checket, IPhone was not part of that segment or have I missed something |

Isn't it obvious that this is a shot across the bows of the iPhone? I think its a clever idea to take apps downmarket, I just don't think low-end phones can provide an experience which will make it work. iPhone has set a very high bar.

Why do people keep complaining about iPhone price? It's designed as a phone that goes with a plan (ala AT&T) just like the Palm Pre. I paid less for my iPhone than for my wife's Z600, my K700 or my V800 and about half of what other smartphones cost when new - current iPhone prices (with plan) are now even cheaper! Updates that add new functionality are free and apps are mostly free or US99c (NZ$1.29). It's a cheap phone to own and maintain and will last longer than other feature and smartphones due to no joystick issues, no faulty slider mechanism, no sticky keypad buttons, no easily worn paint, and a UI others are still struggling to match 2yrs on.
It's a great phone to own during a recession! But if your'e on PAYG I guess you have a different perspective. I've had a plan since my first phone in 1999 so I don't have much sympathy for PAYG subscribers I'm afraid. I prefer to be able to USE my phones, not just txt.
