On the Gadget show (Five) they’ve been testing the 3 latest camera phones to see which one is the best... This includes:

-LG KC910 Renoir
-Samsung M8800 Pixon
-And most importantly the Sony Ericsson C905

4 of each phone were shared amongst some photography students to test the phones through different areas. The results of all the tests are explained below:

Test 1 - Zoom capabilities

As the title says, while on a tour bus the students took photos trying to zoom:

3. LG -No good photos taken
2. Samsung Pixon - photos were too soft
2.Sony Ericsson - photos were good but still too pixalated

Test 2 - Portrait Photos

In general all the phones performed much better than in test one the listings are below:

3. Samsung pixon - The phone struggled with focusing, very poor
1. Lg - joint first, performed much better than test 1
1. Sony Ericsson - Good photos, same level as the LG

Test 3 - Low Lighting Conditions

They went into Shakespeare’s home, very dark and gloomy to test out the flashes/Lights on the phone:

3. Samsung Pixon - Only has an LED flash so created blurry, unfocused photos, not good in dark situations
2.LG - This also has an Xenon flash and did well lighting up the photos but created very gloomy photos
1.Sony Ericsson - the Xenon flash was very powerful and created good photos lighting up all the areas of the photo. It was very quick to take photos, no hanging while it saves or takes

Test 4 - Video Capabilities

Both the LG and Samsung video record at 720x480 but the Sony Ericsson c905 only records in 320x240 resolution recording, so I wasn’t expecting much from Sony here.

3. Sony Ericsson - Poor video and resolution, looked pixalated.
2. Samsung - Very good clear and good fps
1. LG - Just clinched it on better photo.

OVERALL GADGETSHOW RATINGS:

This is out of 5 "g's" or stars

3. 3 g's with the Samsung - poor flash and focusing on pictures
2. 3 G's with the Sony Ericsson - Only the video that let it down

And finally the winner...

1. 4 G's with the LG - overall the best just by a little bit

My C902 would've beaten all those phones hands down

Thanks for that- very interesting!

If you search around this forum you'll find endless comments about how poor SE camphones are but I've alwys had excellent results from them, taking into account the inherent limitations of phones used as cameras.

i think this shows that the camera is really good its just the video that lets it down, although with the new update i think its got slightly better

+ the show was before the firmware update with smile shutter, would of been interesting to see what they thought
