Sony Ericsson will increase share with new strategy based on revenue not volume.
Financial Times
Sony Ericsson’s president was confident last week that the company would be in the top three manufactures by 2011 with its smart phone strategy.
Sony Ericsson’s president, Hideki (Dick) Komiyama said the company will compete by increasing its annual share of the total revenue - rather than volume of handsets sold - with new smart phones.
The strategy marks a change of heart for Komiyama who said in January 2008 that Sony Ericsson would raise share based on a volume. Komiyama said the failure of the company to develop a smart phone resulted in a repetitive string of mid-tier mobile phones with similar specs.
Sony Ericsson will release at least two smart phones by the end of this year, and a third early in 2010.
Komiyama said: ‘If we do not adapt to this new technology or new market environment, we’re going to lose.’

My! Even the CEO is confused, fist, the volume strategy and now smartphones. No wonder the rest of SE is unclear about what is going on.
SE had a better leverage when it had a smartphone (P- series) and only needed to up the number of smartphones per year then they'd be far today. Only if they kept the best OS by far alive and improved on it.
At least they can count on the bad years when they made loses for 3 years but kept at it till they turned the corner. I really hope SE makes it because they are truly the one manufacturer that can come up with exciting products like they did before.
When they are on song (even though the last time was in 2006) they really are brilliant! |

Yes agreed on that one. No matter which manufacturer i buy i end up with SE again in the end. They are doing something right then for us all to love em that much. |

Product differentiation has always been the way to go...
Goodluck to SE anyways
