http://www.xpedio.com/images/quasimode.jpg also for more info here you have it pedio launches quasimode, an i-mode converter for Ericsson T68 and other capable WAP phones

Sony Ericsson's latest mobile phone flagship, the Ericsson T68, has just been launched. It is an impressive phone with many strong features such as GPRS, colour screen and Bluetooth.

- It is almost like being in Japan, except for one small detail, says Gustaf Rosell, CEO of Xpedio. As the future version of WAP, (WAP 2.0), was not defined in time for the release of the T68, this phone supports only WAP 1.2.1, which is based on the WML language and black and white images. This is a pity for such a nice phone.

Xpedio has therefore developed a converter between the highly popular i-mode format CHTML, a subset of the HTML language used everywhere on the wired Internet, and WML 1.2.1, which supports colour images. Major parts of WAP 2.0 (the XHTML Basic format) will also be supported

Besides supporting existing i-mode sites in Japan it will also display the soon-to-be released European i-mode services in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.

- Perhaps the most important aspect is that the development of new, rich services will be a lot simpler and rewarding. These services will be possible to view on all future i-mode or WAP 2.0 phones which are to be more widely released in Europe within the next few months

The Xpedio's quasimode module will be sold to mobile GSM operators and/or their content providers with immediate availability. Besides the Ericsson T68, it also supports many other WAP 1.x phones made by Ericsson, although not with support for colour images

Xpedio also offers site building tools, application platform and other related services to the operators.

wow - i know this is a post from over 4years ago...and thats a very long time...but i never realised i-mode had been around for so long. - it's only just come to the UK, via O2 - right?

and also, i love the T68, never used one - seen someone use one though - and they look so cool even by todays standards from a teen!(i am one!)

was there ever an update to the browser to enable wap 2.0 - because with a communicam it would be a perfect phone if i could get a never-used one and then get a new battery with it good phone...but then again...i'm happy with a V600i

imode is a different way of writing webpages for mobiles as far as i know, its an always on service, delivered via gprs. you press a button, then your there. the blue button on some ericsson(///) and sony ericsson (:se:) phones, for example the /// T65 and the T200, act in a very similar manor, people didnt know how to get onto the internet, and couldn't be bothered so they had to add an extra button to do this. the difference with the blue button, is the fact that the T65 and the T200, are only wap 1.0 compatiable, which therefore then means that you cannot view wap 2.0 pages on your phone. shame really because the T200 is a pretty nice phone, just a metal case and a colour screen, 3g and then it'd be a pretty good phone!
