I've had this problem since I got my K850i (about two months ago). I sent it in for repair and it turned out to be hardware. When I got it back it still did it, so I debranded from Vodafone to generic (R1FA035). It hasn't done it yet, but on the previous (Vodafone) firmware I found a 100% success rate BROD trigger.
In other words I can trigger it when I want, which could help for willing people out there to test the handset and try to find a solution.
THE TRIGGER: I downloaded a Java game from 4shared called Wolfenstein RPG.jar and installed it. On the beginning you have to open one door by pressing 5. Then in the second room the view zooms in on the second door, and BROD. I tried it a few times and it did it every time!
So maybe someone out there with the needed experience can use this info to asses the problem and try to find a solution.
