Laptop batery replacement advice needed |

Hello everyone,
I would very much appreciate a piece of advice regarding the purchase of a replacement laptop battery.
The battery on my 4-year old A series VAIO desktop replacement which could hold up to 1.5 - 2 hours at best when new (unsurprising given the size of the computer) has died.
Now I'm faced with the choice between an ever so pricey original SONY battery and a much cheaper replacement - one of the many battery brands I have never heard of.
Any experiences with third-party laptop replacement batteries? Are they safe and reliable? Do they hold charge as long as the original ones?
In short, would paying less than half the price of the original be a sensible move?

Ask the manufacturer directly, 3rd party batteries can obviously be a hazard and some can't

Yeah, I'd be a bit wary of where you buy third-party laptop batteries from. There is a small risk that it won't work at all or have very poor performance, or that it could even damage your laptop if you end up buying a load of crap by mistake.
Having said that, as long as you get a not-too-cheap one from a 'reputable' stockist, it should be OK and perform more or less the same as the branded version. I bought a generic battery for an old Acer laptop from a UK based shop on Ebay once, and it turned out fine.
Just make sure that wherever you buy it from has a clear, no-quibbles returns policy should it not work properly. Call them to find out if necessary! |

so better watch out for buying fake batteries, sometime it explodes and it creates acid that may destroy your laptop  |

As expected, splashing out on a genuine battery is the only safe option, and it sure is better to be safe than sorry.
