There's some crazy application, "Runner", that keeps on opening every time I boot my PC. It only shows up on the task manager and when I try to maximize it, it only shows a white rectangle. I can only close it via the task manager. It's been coming up for a couple of weeks now, lol, I thought it would have disappeared by now. I don't think it's a virus, 'cos I should be up to date with regards to the anti-virus. Should i be worried, what is it? Can anyone shed some light? Thanks in advance...

Could you download 'hijack this':

Run it, click on 'system scan only' and then copy 'n' paste the results here please?
Might give us a better idea of exactly what it is

I'd know that Icon anywhere, thats the default visual basic icon. That white square thing sounds like a form that launches the other forms, I know cause I used it on an application that rickrolls you every 2 minutes. Seen any random things launching lately?
Just another thought, that could be a downloader, downloading a virus for you.

Where you are in Task Manager, right click on it, then go to process, then right click on the one it hightlights and go to "End process tree"

Thanks guys for all your help. So I installed the anti-malware that gaming_guy suggested and got rid of three malwares, but the problem persisted. So I right clicked in the task manager as lukechris suggested and that took me to a familiar software name that I installed a few weeks ago for broadband, iburst. So I just uninstalled it and voila, problem solved. So turns out it was nothing to be worrried about. But thanks again guys for your replies |
