Ok so I am in a really confused. I have two choices.
My first one is:
Apple MacBook white/black(the color doesn't really matters to me)
2.4 GHz Intel core 2 duo
2 GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
250 GB hdd serial ATA 5400 rpm
8x SuperDrive
Intel GMA X3100 graphical processor with 144MB DDR2 SDRAM shared
InBuilt 10/100/1000BASE-T(gigabit) ethernet
InBuilt AirPort extreme Wi-Fi
InBuilt bluetooth
This lappy will cost me 1000 euros
My second choice is:
iPentium Q6600 CORE2QUAD at 2.4GHz
EN9600GT/DVI-HDMI/ 1GB DDR3
P5QL PRO
4GB RAM DDR2
500GB HDD 7200 rpm SEAGATE
CM mystique 632
Asus DVD-RW black
CM extreme power 390W
This will cost me about 700 euros.
Please anyone help me.
And just for information i don't intend to play games (maybe counter attack and NFS), and what do You think of the macintosh.
Thanks everyone |

Before the Mac Police bust in here, can I just say that the PC based one:-
- Has a quad core processor
- Twice as much RAM
- Dedicated graphics
- Twice the hard disk space and a faster spin speed
Yes, I know that Vista is a ram and cpu hog whereas Mac OS can run on a washing machine controller but looking at value for money alone, I think the choice is clear in this case.

Is the Macbook brand new? Cause if so you won't get a black one
Is there any point getting a quad core CPu if your not a gamer?

Completely agreed. While Mac is good, it doesnt justify the enormous increase in price for half the performance.

You should consider the Mac to be the luxury option, which ultimately, is exactly what it is under most circumstances.
Are you after a luxury computer, or something which will just do what it's supposed to do?
If yes to either, buy the Mac.
Since when has Windows done what it's supposed to do?

I hope you've got a warrant, officer!
Windows isn't that bad. Sure, Vista was a huge disappointment but hey, onwards and upwards...
And a rig like that will run Windows 7 like a dream.

A mac can run both mac osx and windows natviely.
A windows pc cannot.
That's all I'll say.

why would you want to buy that system and then install windows on it? the specs are literally half of the windows PC.
the only reason to buy that Mac is, well, because its a Mac. And that apparently means something.

Yup, I have to agree that this particular Mac is a hell of a lot of money for what you actually get. You'd have to be a real OSX nut or have a pathological hatred of all things Windows / Linux to buy it over the PC in this case.

BUT, those two computers will probably run at the same speed, despite the differences on paper. OS X is light and fast, and will be 12 months down the line, when the Windows PC has a bloated registry and gives you nervous eye-twitch.

that really comes down to what you want to use it for. but still, you cant go wrong with twice the RAM and twice the number of cores, and twice the HD space, and maybe 10 times better video card

Not everybody likes OSX, don't forget! And not everybody has the expertise or inclination to go dual-booting or running emulators for non-OSX applications.
If Windows really is that bad then why is it so popular? Linux has been a viable (and arguably better) alternative for the average non-technical, non-gaming PC user for years yet windows is still the manufacturer's OS of choice. For most people, it's easy enough, fast enough and reliable enough for what they need to do on a day to day basis.
And in this case it's 300 Euros cheaper!

The Mac will give you instant cool-points.
More seriously though - it all comes down to what you prefer. Ignore the spec sheet just this once, and try out a Mac in an Apple Store.
As Cyco said, and I agree, OS X isn't to everyone's tastes, but as far as I'm concerned, is the superior OS when compared to Windows Vista.
You won't know how you lived without OS X. I switched a year ago, and genuinely find Windows a crap experience. And I'm not an Apple fanboy - I bought it because Windows was a problem my life could do without. Maintenance, Microsoft's forceful updates, viruses and everything that comes with Windows isn't on Mac.
And @Cyco - because everyone just got used to it + pre-installing Windows on PCs means $$$ from MS for them. Those "[insert company name here] recommends Vista Home Premium" bits you see on ads pretty much mean free advertising for manufacturers. Something Linux isn't capable of.
