Because they've been complacent for a few years, massively under-invested in research and development, and let various competing companies take the lead in all the areas you mention. At a time when the smartphone is rapidly taking prominence and encapsulating all these in-demand features, SE have given away the only smartphone smarts they had (UIQ), and in fact their only existing smartphone has software by Microsoft and hardware by HTC, making it not much of an SE at all.
Their next planned smartphone (the "Idou") is essentially a clone of a Nokia running S60 Touch. So really, you'd be better off asking Nokia, or perhaps Microsoft, when they will be able to support multi-touch on an SE phone.

Well if i were you. I would rather look elsewhere for something better and stop daydreaming that SE would change for good. idou as of now is not as impressive as what SE is trying to impose to us and i highly doubt it will get any better than what we see or know. Sadly but thats what i feel now.

I wonder something, had you have a chance to play with IDOU lately or only watch some clips and give comment with negative issue.
As I play n' touch them maybe a bit early prototype, It's well done on their jobs. Quite impressive for me. |

They can't use Multi-touch because Apple have a patent but they have something similaron the Idou and had other TS phones well before Nokia.
They use a proximity sensor for Gesture control AFAIK. Who else does gesture control? The horribly expensive Porsche P9521 and that's it I think.
Video? They have probably made a trade off here between features and cost. I think they've also chosen to emphasize still pictures rather than video. They're aiming for a specific market - that's THEIR choice. We can buy or not, that's OUR choice.
SE are definately up with the play as far as radio frequencies and modem functions are concerned. 7.2Mbps handsets, PCMCIA data cards and USB modems are available. Bluetooth V2.1 with Enhanced Data rate and Wifi in the mid-range too. I used Modem via BT on a Z600 years ago.
SE chooses the segments it competes in carefully. This not the same as lacking in technology.

SONY figured that if SE wants to put good video recording on phones, then SE has to buy the rights for a Handycam phone. |

When will SONY realize that they're no longer the biggest player in the business? They need some serious catching up to do if they want to keep impressing the believers. |

Just leave SE and buy a Samsung / Nokia or LG.
I am still stumped over both Samsung and LG taking over SE, in both areas of sales and handset quality - which goes to show, make a nice product, outsell the competition with a weaker product.
I were an SE fan since the T68i, but now I am no longer blinded and brainwashed by loyalty.
The T range is still good and purty looking though, I think that I will just buy the latest T phone to use as my spare handset, and now I am moving onto nice large touch screen phones on my contract to make good use of the subsidised prices.

Nokia is out of the question, Samsung's rendition of Symbian isn't really that good, so probably only LG cuts it. But LG's best phones are the touchscreen ones and I don't like them either...

But they ALL have better phones then the C905 and X1 Xperia now.
Better in every way.
Oh, and so do HTC, maybe just not in regards of camera though. |

What a load of rubbish! It's the little things that make SE phones great not just the big things that turn teenagers on like Gazillion Mp camera's.
I read on another forum a post from a Nokia owner trying to get SMS off his old Nokia onto his new one. This stuff is bread and butter for SE owners, you either archive SMS on your M2 or use MPE. My V640i sync-ed itself to my new Vaio via BT, I didn't have to do anything even with Vista on board - I was stunned at the simplicity. Stuff like that. SE phones are so multi-faceted you keep finding new ways to use them even months after purchase. |

Again, just more brainwashed SE fans . I am glad to be an ex brainwashed SE fan now after reading the lame excuses people keep on making for SE.
Who could seriously give a .... about transferring messages between an old and new phone, as opposed to features?
Every SE phone except the Xperia is just a clone of the T68i in terms of UI, there is never anything new or different from SE, just the same old, same old stuff with minor improvements, and nothing made in time to compete in 2009 against Nokia, Samsung, and LG's new releases.
Lets wait untill the end of this year to see how much more market share SE loses to both LG and Samsung.
A few years ago, SE were the second best company in terms of phone features and specifications, now they are falling to the bottom.
But the sales figures will speak for themselves, just wait and see.
And I cant believe you just considered that SE is an adult brand and others are for teenagers - I think you will find that the walkman brand is purely marketted and aimed at teenagers with people like, as are all the fashion phones that SE keep on releasing like the new T707.
SE are going to continue to fall lower and lower unless they bring out something good earlier then the Idou, but it doesnt look like that is going to happen.
And you complained that there is more to phones then a gazillion megapixels, wait, which manufacturer was it that invented the Cybershot brand again?
Cybershot = OMG Gazillion megapixels, and Walkman = intended for teenagers right? Seems right to me.
