I decided to give my new C902 a run for its money today, and have started to produce a little shootout here that will show how it fairs against my trusty digicam.

The Contenders!

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 (10mp)

.VS.

Sony Ericsson C902 (5mp)

The Shootout: Daytime

Shot 1: Well I personally think the C902 handles the colours a little better here.

Shot 2: Almost the same at this size?

Shot 3: Panasonic with the better colour and detail.

Shot 4: Close, but better colour and detail on the Panasonic..just.

Shot 5: Red is a little bright on the C902 here, Panasonic is natural.

Shot 6: Wind was blowing the flowers too much.. own decisions on the winner?

100% Crops

Shot 7: Both colours are good, so detail is key. Panasonic

Shot 8: Uh-oh..is that purple fringing I see on the C902?

Overall I think the C902 performed very well for good weather day light shots. All photos were taken in 5mp mode on all auto settings, apart from the flower which was macro. Main things to notice were slightly pink/too bright reds on the C902 and full size noise on the C902.

I had a play with TZ5 once very nice camera. Although i love Leica lenses some Panasonic cameras do have noise problems. In the Panasonic shot is that the real colour of the table? Reason i ask is its so much more deeper the colour but looks over saturated.

No the C902 is closer to the actual colours in this shot.

I thought so as the second shot is way too over the top colours on the Panasonic.

Panasonic make great camera IMO. I have the DMC-FS3 and it's great. Never tested the colour reproduction or anything though lol.

for a dedicated digital camera, those are some pretty terrible pictures color wise.

compare those 100% crops though on the first image, you can see a clear advantage to the panasonic.

outdoor and daylight shots coming tomorrow

Not in the eyes of camphone fanatics. Color and white balance is more important than low light sensitivity and noise. A camphone photo can be more noise than detail but it will still be considered good as long as the colors are accurate.

Shootout updated!

Firmware was updated to most recent on both devices and shootout was done again, this time with side by side shots. All in 5mp mode and auto settings.

Hope you like this one better!
