W705 & Wi-Fi woes |

Hello everyone,
I recently picked up a W705 and am enjoying just about everything about it (compact size, big screen, HSDPA for high speed Internet and so on). Everything, that is, except Wi-Fi connectivity, which is proving to be horrendously unreliable.
Take now, for instance. I'm at work, where yesterday it picked up out guest access network without issue (along with that of our test lab) it's now 'Searching...' and has been insisting nothing is in range for ten minutes. At home last night I was standing beside our Netgear DG835Gv3 wireless router (802.11g, channel 4, WPA2) and it refused to connect or list the network (or any of the others I know exist in the building). The day before it picked up and connected immediately from any room in the house. When enabling Wi-Fi I've genuinely no idea if I'm going to be able to use it or not (though I know there shouldn't be a problem).
Has anyone with a Wi-Fi enabled SE phone experienced anything similar? I've restarted it (and our wireless router) several times and SEUS reports the software is current (ditto for the router firmware). I'm going to try and contact SE Support but I'm not confident they'll diagnose anything more than a potentially faulty handset.
Any and all advice very gratefully received,
Cheers! |

Hi there,
My wife's picked up a W705 at the weekend and I've got it working on our DLink wireless router without any problems.
She's also tried it at work on the company Wi-Fi network and no problems with that either.
Have you tried yours in a public hotspot just to check another wireless router? |

I have, yes. It doesn't seem to be a problem with a particular access point. On enabling Wi-Fi it either works and displays networks within range or hangs 'Searching...' indefinitely. Funnily enough, after a morning of it doing exactly that, I powered it off a moment ago, removed the battery, whistled a merry tune for 30 seconds or so, put the phone back together and tried again.
Voila! Our internal networks now flash up almost instantaneously, though clearly I shouldn't have to turn off the phone and take it apart for that to happen. Intend to keep a close eye on it throughout the day.
Thanks for the reply Jayce. I'm glad to hear Mrs Jayce isn't having any trouble. =)

In somewhat of an update; it seems the problem isn't concerned with the phone not recognising networks but more that the Wi-Fi process is hanging when searching. Removing the battery has the ball rolling again and when the phone is genuinely out of range it reports 'No Networks Detected' after ten seconds or so. SE Support recommended a global settings reset (Settings | Master Reset | Reset Settings) but having to reconfigure my shortcuts, theme, time and date whenever I want to use Wi-Fi is too much of a pain.

Firmware update?
May have to take for service?
I almost cant believe this could be it but try turning off BT?
Another thing that might reset things for you is to change profiles - maybe flight mode? Then switch back and test again. |

Hey! I got myself a w705 a few days back and faced the same problem as the user "biokinton" did. I did all that he did and my phone did detect my netgear router again. thanks for that. now, the problem i'm facing is that my phone asks for the passphrase and in spite on entering the correct passphrase, it comes up with a heart breaking "incorrect passphrase".. if that's not the message my phone is in the humour to give, it gives a plain "could not connect to network". any solutions?? |

Sounds like the problem I had with my c905. . . . . . . Expecting my replacement tomorrow. It started just like what you're describing and just got worse.
