Im running a fresh install of XP pro on my laptop. ericsson software is instaled without issue.

I can connect oto my ISP. A simple ping of www.esato.com confirms this. About 40 seconds into the conenction, everything freezes and I cant ping nor web browse anymore. This is the same on either IR or bluetooth.

Any thoughts?

Could be a corrupted install - are you using a legit copy of XP? Try doing a repair install and see if that helps.

Also...try upgrading to the latest version of IE.

Alternatively, try using firefox - i have found it much less buggy and suceptible freezing than internet explorer.

sounds like a driver conflict with your hardware.

If fresh instal then maybe your network adaptors are running on standard xp drivers and you will need the correct cd to update them, either the cd for the motherboard if built in network adaptor or cd that came with the network adaptor if in PCI slot.

Go to Device manager, locate the device and go through the update driver process etc.

Blutooth and IR may be the same problem. If you check device manager and under Universal Serial bus (USB) id it says something like 'standard USB host' etc etc then you need the CD for the motherboard and update these drivers too so they then say something like Asus (whatever your motherboard is) advanced USB controller.

i had a similar problem and this worked for me!

good luck

just do a reset of the network stack...

start > run >"netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt"

enter

restart

create a new connectoid and try.

will this work for me do you think...i'll explain.

i have a wireless network at home (802.11g), both my pc and laptop connect constantly between 80 + 100% and always say speed of 54mbps!

now, when i use laptop is very fast and if i visit bandwidth speed test page i get consistant results showing 645 Kbps downnload speed (i am on an 8 mb connection).

but, when i use the pc it never goes above speed of 100 kbps even though 90% ish connection strength and showing as connected at 54mbps?

any ideas...tried all pc forums and no one knows the answer..you sound like you know what you're talking about here???

cheers mate

also noticed when transferring files over the network via ftp etc i still get very slow speeds. so it is definately a problem with the pc.

N.B.

I have tried every PCI slot in the machine incase it was an IRQ issue etc.

Is the network card in your PC 802.11g? If it's 802.11b, you can only get speeds of up to 11Mbps rather than 54Mbps regardless of the router.

Thanks for trying but yes if read above you would see i have connection at 54Mbps which is 802.11g.

That's what's shown on the PC itself and besides that i know it is a 802.11g card as i only bought it a couple of weeks ago and made damn well sure i didn't get 802.11b.

cheers anyway

It is a Netgear WG311v2......

Ah right, I didn't see that

The last time I saw a problem like this it was down to a faulty card, but it's unlikely to be the case here seeing as the card is new
