You can try and "demand" a replacement as this is a very common issue. Both the earpiece breaking and phones coming back scratched and bruised from repair centres.
Just explain them your worries and ask for some service. Most of the staff are part timers who don't really care what is going to happen, giving you a new phone and sending the old one doesn't matter to them, and if it does ask for a manager and get your customer satisfaction, service and your continued custom in their store.
You could also mention you're an active member of a large phone enthusiasts forum and you been told that they will give you a replacement phone as part of their good service A little white lie can't hurt
