Why dont CyberShot phones have Carl Ziess lenses? |

Can anyone answer me why dont SonyEricsson CyberShot phones have Carl Ziess lenses in? I ask this due to it being Sony CyberShot branding and Sony's dedicated digital cameras employing Carl Ziess lenses in them. Has Nokia gained the only rights to employ them lenses in their phones. I have a CyberShot N1 digital camera and i find Carl Ziess lenses very sharp and clear though they are by no means the best lenses. Whats anyone's take on this?

Too expensive to put on mobile phones prolly. I also read somewhere on Esato that the Zeiss lenses on Nokia are actually generic lenses simply branded as Zeiss. |

It's Nokia so they can afford to have No-care in the world about it (get the pun?) |

I don't think it would make much difference the lenes are so small anyway, the old sony 1's used to be just as good as a carl zeiss lens.

Yes Sony lenses are good my brothers old Sony cam has them in it takes great 5mp images. I was once told though by Jessops that they dont rate Sony cameras or lenses.

The sony lenses do appear to be falling in quality, the 1's on my k750 & k800 were fine, my C702 would sometimes smudge the corners or be less sharp towards the corners, i use a sony P100 as my digicam i choose it because it has a larger sensor 1/1,8″” with only 5mp loaded on it & a carl zeiss lens, compared to most newer digicams which have sensors noramlly 1/2,8″” with anything from 7-13megapixels loaded on them. The sonys do tend to over process there images with noise reduction , the p100 doesn't and it only really shows a little noise at iso400.

because Sony lenses is better
if you think its N82 Carl ziess lens who make the overall quality...you wrong....its Nokias camera software who makes the last quality....
(its easy to see. just look at the picture just before you save it, then after)
besides,
both my k750, k800, c902.... produce stunning macro pictures, with splendid details ... so im glad SE keeps using their own lenses.
pss.... the only Carl ziess lens im really interested in, is N86 wide angle 28mm..

The sony lenses aren't better, the carl zeiss lens are better if you look at a pic taken with a camphone with a carl zeiss lens the pic is just as sharp thoughout , sometimes with the sony lenses the corners look a bit smudged, but it's just a phone cam there lenses are so small it doesn't really matter or make a difference what lens is used, adding carl zeiss lens would make the phones cost more and it really isn't worth it, so in our camphones the sony lenes are just fine. |

I'm going to say this one more time: Nokia's agreement with Carl Zeiss about the so-called Carl Zeiss lenses is nothing but a trademark agreement to say that Nokia's standard lenses have been approved by Carl Zeiss. It has no effect on the outcome whatsoever, and is nothing more than a stupid branding agreement to make customers think that they've got the better optics - and it's obviously working. Any change you might spot in the outcomes of a phone with and without the so-called 'Carl Zeiss optics' is due to a different software post-processing.
On a side note, Carl Zeiss optics are far from the best in the league when it comes to professional grade optics for professional single lens reflex cameras.

i think you wrong
like i said, the overall quality with example Nokias Carl ziess lenses comes via their own camera software....(im not saying example N82 lens is crap, BUT its not the lens who make everything vivid and sharp).
this is was im talking about.......... Sony lenses produce outstanding sharpness and details.

hope the keep developing their own lenses in the future...they rocks

For compacts and camphones, the carl zeiss lenses are the better 1's
carl zeiss lens ,

I do find with my c510 and with my old K800i that corners and some detail is blurred. Nokia phones do produce sharp images but very over sharpened sometimes with unnatural colours.
