Hey lost my phone a 5 days ago whilst out gettin tanked up (aka pissed) in the pub. Not a problem as ive got orange care and they kindly sorted me out with a new one the next day. Slight problem though went into the same pub yesterday and found that my phone had been handed in. I havent tried turning the phone on just in case i get arrested for slealing my phone!!!! Will it be locked and what do you reckon i should do with it. Can it be unlocked/unbarred cos orange said its my phone and i can do what i like with it so i thought i might aswell sell the thing. What do ya reckon?

Well, If it is your phone (as you said Orange said you can have it), then you cant be arrested for using it

Turn it on and see if it works, if it does then sell it!!!!!

If it doesnt, then ask your SP to unlock it, they might do it.......

You might find, if you turn it on, that it has allready been locked. I think you better just leave i alone, as a spare part phone. You nver know if yo might need a new cover or screen on your new phone one day. And you now have two batteries, chargers and manuals. One for work and one for home. Doubble up of all! That aint bad is it? Selling it would make you a cruck, wont it?

orange will have already locked it. You can get it unlocked I think but it will not work on Orange at all only other networks. I am not sure that Orange are right in what they say as there insurance firm will rally be the owners of it as they paid out for the new one so check again before you unlock it and sell on.

volvo's right, legally the phone belongs to orange (or their insurers) now, and it'll be locked on their network. last i heard, the networks were all bringing their hotlists of stolen phones together, so i doubt it'll work on any other uk network either.

This phone will have a lock put on the IMEI number which is like the chassie number of your car. If you change this which is the only way to unlock it, it is the same as ringing a car and there are now stiff penaltys being put in place to curb this as it is now an offence to be in posetion of any tools or software to alter the identity of a mobile phone. This is to try and stop all the people who have been mugged for their mobile phones. So be warned it is ilegal and do not blame anyone if you get caught. I do not know of anyone who is currently providing this service in the UK
