(START READING AT POST 10 TO COME TO THE CR@P SERVICE PART)

I bought a K850i last week friday and I am already experiencing problems. It makes a strange short sound then it shows the main screen. The "vodacom" name is replaced by "inactive sim" and then it shuts down. All this happends in about 3 seconds. It then starts up again.

Sometimes when I switch it on, I put my pin in and then when it starts up it imidiately sais "inactive sim" and switches off. I have tried several simcards and they all do the same and some doesn't even ask me for a pin and just says "insert sim". It seems that internet also triggers this because after browsing for about 5 mins on default browser or opera mini it goes out, shows inactive sim and restarts.

It has the R1Ea031 Vodafone firmware and I have already updated with SEUS. For some reason it doesn't update to R1FA firmware.
I wanted to flash but I will lose my warranty.

What is the problems and what can I do? Thank you for any help! :)

take it back to where you got it or call the helpline of your operator and they should be able to sort something out, i dont think it's the phone as people i know have had this problem and have been able to sort it by calling the heping of their operator

Thank you for your reply, I am very grateful. I called both Sony Ercisson and Vodacom (Vodacare). Sony Ericsson told me that I need a firmware upgrade and that I should contact vodacom. Ok as I said I already updated and that didn't help.

So then I called Vodacare and asked them, they told me that I should bring it in so that they can send it to Sony Ericsson to fix. Ok I am going to do this but my problem is that they are most likely to update it again to the same firmware and then I have the same problems all over again. One of the guys at Sony Ericsson even told me that it is very likely that they are just going to update it.

What do you think?

Ok cool, 2 questions though:

Why not 037?
Will it still be vodafone live branded because then it doesn't really help me.

I sent my phone to SE service centre today btw.

OK so Vodacare actually fixed the phone at the vodacare shop. So I called to ask what was wrong. The K850i let me down worse than I thought. The sim reader was faulty and the frimware was messed up (well the firmware part was predictable)

But anyway, I'm collecting tommorow. Do you guys think they updated to r1fa035 because it wasn't availible on seus two days ago. Or don't they use seus?

Yeah sure it will be updated to R1FA035.

SEUS is for se users (buyers). SE Service centre experts have many other ways to upgrade the phone' firmware. [addsig]

OK, but I actually meant will vodacare update to r1fa, and they didn't! I am very mad right now. So I collected my phone today from vodacare and they told me that the phone was working fine. So about 10 mins after I got home I got a BROD when I received a call.

I called them and they quickly realized that I was very upset, so the at least apologized for their CR@P service and told me that they would send the phone to SE to be replaced and give me a "better" handset to use in meantime.

I'm taking the phone in tomorrow and then I'm going to tell them that I don't want their cr@ppy vodafone edition for a replacement but the green original SE one without the vodafone cr@pware!
