my version is R1B008 wot do differnt types mean and are there any advantages of different types ???

I got the R1D011.

And there is a newer version out now. The R1F0xx

The change between R1D and R1B isn't very big. The startup and shutdown sounds is gone.

Any specs anywhere as to what improvements over R1D?

No that's wrong. I have R1D011 and can see the start up soynd. On shut down the is no sound for me.

how about hardware versions. when you remove battery there are two numbers one is firmware and is other hardware?

I noticed that the startup sound was gone because I had a own start up picture. But when I have the original start up the sound is back..

Just looked at my software Info and saw that I have R1B008 Software. Seems quite old to me

Can I update it myself to the newest one? If yes, how?

I don't think you can update the firmware yourself. You have to take it to an SE service center.
