SE C905 vs Canon EOS 350! Camera Shoot-out ! |

Hi,
I borrowed Canon EOS 350 a really great 8 Mpix digital camera (camera of the year 2006 I think) and took some pictures with both EOS 350 and my Sony Ericsson C905. I can't post full size pictures here thats why I created an account att google mail with name c905mobilforum and password SonyEricsson. There You can find FULL SIZE pictures taken both with EOS350 and C905. Here are what You can expect if You download full size pictures to compare on Your own.
Pictures here are 8Mpix pictures resized to 700x500 pix and You can see only a half of a picture
I Tried to take pictures of different things and in different light conditions.
What You can see HERE is NOT really right comparision. To really compare images (cameras) You have to download FULL SIZE pictures that I have in my mail, and that is mail.google.com
Log in with user name: c905mobilforum

Download pictures to Your computer and compare.
This is NOT a professional comparision. I just have some free time and I decided to do something fun.
My oppinion si that Canon is of course better but C905 phone is allmost as good as Canon.
If You want to really test it, download pictures put side-by-side and ask someone else. I asked my girlfriend, she guessed 50% right
Or if You wont to take it even furhter order prints and compare it on paper
Comments are Welcome

nice comparison and surprisingly the c905 wins in some of the images, e.g. the candle and skin-tone.
the canon just clinches it back with the picture of the lady seems somewhat sharper
good work |

edit..........
C905 is behind indoor and lowlight against EOS BIG sensor and optic, (anything else should be weird)
outdoor in sunshine there is c905 more similar.......thats my opinion
no offence man. still fun with camera shoot-outs keep up the good work
edit again.....
yes. i agree with you Luci...very nice comparison....c905 is no bad shooter,, macro is very good, also indoor with better light.

I had one of them
there are some knockouts like in details amount and ISO-to-noise ratio. auto white balance in EOS is very good, except of problems in artificial light
EOS close-up pics are blurry? no, the key to understand this pics lies in strong relation of aperture size and depth of field. with fixed f/2.8 in C905 you don't have to care about such a things

did u really bother focusing the EOS 350...coz most of its pics appear out of focus and hence they don't look as good
in the real world...it would be impossible for a camera with the sensor size which is used in C905 to be able to compare forget beat the quality of pics of a DSLR!! C'mon!!!
I am not saying C905 is a bad camphone..infact i reckon its one of the best so far...but there is no way it can compare to a DSLR....there are hardly if any normal digital compacts that would either! |

something is very wrong here....
Or pics of Canon are chosen in purpose to discqualifeid Canon, and some bad examples are use it for compare,
or is Canon piece of shit... (which can't be )
Otherwise,
it's nice to see such a comparasition... When I say to people who are interested in my photos, that I'm actually taking pics with my mobile,
they just say WOOW .... They actually can't believe it.... It's so unreal that some mobile phone
do such a photo.... Yes it can... I got hundreds of them....
But this here...is quite suspicious ...
OK, let's face it.... C905 can do such a good pics,
but Canon can't do such a bad pics

I'm sorry this thread is worthless
Every one of the C905i exposures has a colour cast, and not a single one of the 350D shots is in focus.
What lens did you use? What focal length and aperture settings?

Well as I said. I own c905 but not EOS350. I had it for an hour or two and that is result. I can comfirm that someone who use EOS350 daily can take much better pictures than me I am not familiar with camera and my test was to take amateur pictures with both phone and Canon. (I guess that more than 90% of people who take pictures are amateurs like me). I am sure that some PRO photographer can change settings in Canon as it should be. On the other hand, I have a lot of friends that have DSLR and most of the time they use "auto" and do not bother with settings. (and yes there is a lot of blurry images)
Anyway I am happy with my c905. There is a LOT people here on forum that are complaining about this and that and everything. Most of the time after I take pictures I resize it to some size that is OK to send in e-mail and they look great. From time to time I order some prints and c905 pictures sure look great on paper.
Thanks for listening! |

frankthetank > I used standard Canon lens I think it is 18/55 mm and I zoomed a little to reach about same size as with c905. Focus is somewhere in the middle and objecst further away are blurry, I think that is called depht of field. But just like I said that was NOT professional comparision and I must agree with You that it could be better focus, sorry. May I ask You for some help. May be You have some frind with DSLR and can take some pictures to compare. I guess You can do that more professionaly.
Thanks ! |

So to conclude in the hands of a newbie the Canon takes less pretty shots than the C905. Not very surprising tbh. You need to learn a lot to use even basic dSLR functions and features, it is not so much a point and shoot camera as a mid-range digicam.
I also don't subscribe to the opinion that the C905 is little behind a Canon EOS, because that would automatically imply that it is miles better than most medium and high range normal digicams. Nevertheless its fun to have shoot outs
I would like to see a shootout between mid/high end camera phones vs. mid/high end digicams (no dSLRs).
Edit:
Have a look at these: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/CanonEOS350D/page29.asp
