Hi all, currently i own a SE C702,
last time i went to my hometown,
as i arrived on some places, i marked stars (*) on google maps..
and, as you know, all marked places will be saved or written in "My Favourites"
recently, after i did a firmware update,.. the marked places are gone, i mean, all there's nothing inside the "My Favourites"...

I could not find and re-stars some of the places manually as some of the places are hidden under the clouds in google maps..plus, it sure looks different viewing maps rather than drive car to go there...so it is quite difficult for me to remember the places..

So, nevermind all the lost stars. Let bygone be bygone. Now i really really want to know how to back up all "My Favourites" as it cannot be transferred by bluetooth, or be copied using computer...

I afraid, there might be another firmware update for my phone.., but i really don't wanna lose all marked places.. as they costs money during the process.. (GPRS)

Hi
I'm looking for a way to do the same. So far, the closest hint of doing this that I've found is using A2 Uploader or something like it to access the system files as is shown is the screenshot on this page in wastedagen's post.

I'll be trying that now, but if it doesn't work, I'd like to know if anyone else knows another way.

Hey!

It did work!

Here's how to back up your gps favourites in Google Maps on your sony ericsson phone:

Get A2 uploader from here

Run A2Uploader and click on FILE SYSTEM at the right side. The program will now ask you to connect your phone in the same way SEUS asks; turned off, hold down 'c' and insert the USB. The file system will now load up.

In the A2 Uploader window, you can navigate around the system files. I found gps relevant data in the following two files: "tpa/system/loconn/locations.xml", "tpa/user/system/landmark_databank.dbf"
I backed these up and then went ahead with my firmware upgrade. [I'm not that brave. I had to coz my phone had crashed]
Later I restored these two files using A2Uploader and voila! My favourites were back! [I did back up the default [empty(smaller in size)] ones too in case my old files made my google maps crash or something]

It might just have been one file out of these that made the difference. [probably the second one]

A few tips for using A2 Uploader.

1. The other file in the zip file that you download from the link above is the drivers setup. You might not need them, but run it before you use A2 uploader.
2. You'll have to disable all antivirus softwares to be able to run the file without errors. I had to uninstall my Avg as it was malfunctioning, but you might not need to. And it's a safe software. The antivirus gives a false positive.
3. To read a file [from phone to PC] right click on the file and select read. That will put the file selected in A2U's active directory. [This should be somewhere in the "Docs and settings > Username > Local settings > Temp" folder if you run it directly from the zip file.]
4. To write a file [from PC to phone], just drag and drop the file into the A2U window. Warning: It will overwrite files without asking, so make sure you have backups or you are sure of what you're doing.

I hope I was clear enough in these instructions. And I hope people find this info useful. If anybody needs more assistance, PM me.

Many thanks to Slimspook,
I nearly lost hope waiting for somebody to answer in this thread. (I posted the question 5 months ago)

Backing up My Favourites is the biggest concern for me everytime I do fw update.
Now with this method, no worries.

Thanks

regarding the files, yeah you're right,
i only manage to find the 2nd file,
no .../loconn/locations.xml for me
