50's / Elvis, Chuck Berry and Rock & Roll

60's / The Beatles and The British Invasion, Motown, Psychedelia and the beginnings of Heavy Metal

70's / Arena Rock, FM Radio, Punk, Drugs and Rock & Roll. And disco

80's / New Wave, House, Hair Metal and MTV

90's / Grunge, Alternative, RockCountryPop and Boy Groups

00's / Pop Idol, The X Factor, American Idol, everybody reforms and every possible Genre and subgenre imaginable

I think its all relative depending on how old you are and what you grew up with

I'd have a tough time picking between the 70's and 80's

It's probably because of my age, but 00s have brought up some great artists!
Just this year alone:
- Frank Turner
- Chase & Status
- The King Blues
- Emmy the Great
- Little Boots
- James Yuill

And this is NOT by years active, but artists that have recently come under the spotlight, and gaining popularity.

Not while I was awake, Reg.
Certainly not among my generation. More Than Alot, and especially this new single with Kano is really pushing them forward. Most probably won't like stuff like Streetlife and Pieces, but they're only just getting big now.
I know Radio 1 tried to get them out there a few years back, but that clearly didn't work. I hadn't heard anything from them until about December 2008 time!

Personaly i think the 80's are unbeatable.

Its the decade where music really began with proper music video's and MTV.
