DEBATE! So yeah this is a debate thread. Do you think it will ultimately slowly kill the W and C series bringing us one unison series were even the lowend walkman phones have a high end cam and viceversa or do you think they will be high end only with the mid and low tier still being split? |

I donīt think can kill the series or the cybershot series now. Itīs simply unlogical. These series are responsible for part of their consumer base and it wouldnīt make sense to end them. Al least not in a couple of years. I believe the EU series will consist of high-end models while the and cybershot series will continue to exist. Of course both and cyber will have to evolve in order to keep competitive and that means borrowing something from each other but the difference in main focus will remain. At least thatīs my opinion based on what has been doing for a couple of years. Personally Iīve never liked the and cyber series. Iīve always thought thatīs kinda stupid to divide both things. |

Considering that the W995 is the first EU phone, then no, absolutely not.

as i have already said in another thread
keeping different series is what buisness is all about
there needs to be variety to reach different layours of consumers
but in my opinion(for years now), things need to get simpler, choices are good, but only if the consumer has a good overview
this is what i suggest

also i think that there will be no more P-Series since UIQ p990 turned away most of it UIQ users
IMO i think Xperia is there to replace the p series and maybe g series. if you notice they had plan to release Paris but it got cancel and a new series was created in the g line then X1.
Maybe hopefully in the future when people forget about P series they'll make a new one. Similar like when they surprises us with the t700

I donīt think Idou is an Xperia device. The design is much too different, it runs symbian and has a focus on camera the X1 didnīt have. It looks much more like a P device to me but since the P line died it probably wonīt be named Pxxx. I think itīs kinda of mistery for themselves right now to name Idou or place it properly in the portfolio. Thatīs why we are still calling it Idou. set itself out to make ītheī all in one phone and now doesnīt now where to put it. Maybe Idou will be a īseparateī device with an unique name and pricing for the mobile enthusiasts, who knows. |

^^Agreed. I wouldn't mind if they just continued to call it Idou to be honest.

Just one more thing. The first EU device is not W995, is Idou. EU means and cybershot together and W995 is just a phone. |

But W995 has 8mp camera...
Idou - SE U1
The best mobile phone brand died with Sony Ericsson's death. Shame on you Sony for killing it! And, of course, for ruining the Xperia brand... Mediar's Site |

I just hope, really sincerely, that this EU thing will live up to its hype. Although to be honest there's not that much hype over it right now.

EU press release:
"Sony Ericsson is unveiling the W995 Walkman phone at Mobile World Congress offering the most complete communication entertainment package to date. The launch of this phone exemplifies the excellence that Sony Ericsson has achieved in both the music and imaging categories and enables the evolution into Entertainment Unlimited. The company is also showing a mobile phone under the concept name Idou* giving a glimpse of one of a number of projects that will be launched this year under the umbrella of Entertainment Unlimited."
Hm.. on second thought maybe they just meant that it's a step towards the new EU devices, the W995 not being one itself.

How can you say the design "is much to different" there is only one phone to base that on, personally i believe it must be part of the Xperia line because it is all part of the "experience" and when the x1 was announced they said windows mobile wont be the only platform used, unless its part of the new "bravia" series that is yet to be released? |
