I have this program for backups etc. I want to do a fresh install of XP, due to certain things not working on my daughters account. If I perform a backup using acronis, would I have to reinstall all my programs after or does this put all the programs back in their current state?
Also, would it leave the things that aren't working on my daughters profile in the same state?

I've been using True Image for years and its saved me more than once.
In fact I recently upgraded my vaio drive from 250gb to 500gb and a simple full image copy from the old disk, and a restore to the new disk and I was back running just as I was before the upgrade and without any reinstalls etc
If you're doing an image copy then you'll get exactly the same back on your drive when you recover.
The other option (which I've never really used) is to backup individual folders, but since windows apps installs stuff in different places, incuding the registry, if you don't back up all the right folders then you'll find yourself reinstalling anyway
what I do with my kids is give them a clean system, get them to install what they normally use, and then do an image backup.
I then give them that image backup on their external drive and a CD/DVD with Acronis on it and when they stuff up their system (which they do regularly with the weird and wonderful sites they visit), they know how to restore it back to the original working state themselves.
Maybe its time to bite the bullet and do a full recovery and install and then an image backup? then you'll know exactly what you're running with

Think thats what i will do, as i dont want to be in the same boat after a re install. I have backed up my documents using acronis so i will bite the bullet.
Cheers. |
