Anything I can do about my water damaged C905? |

My 3 week old C905 is no longer working after being submerged in water - going to leave it to dry off a few days but I'm not holding much hope.
So I'm wondering if Sony have a process for repairing these phones? I'm aware my warranty has been broken so I don't mind paying a fee or whatever, I just figure for such an expensive phone it should be possible to replace whichever part is broken rather than having to buy a whole new one... |

Sony Ericsson repair department have a process of trying to fix a water damaged phone but it is not always 100% effective.
I know this sounds really cheeky but would they realise if you dried the phone off completely and then said my phone doesnt work?? i went to work and when i came back it was switched off and wouldnt turn on. You could send it for warranty repair and if they say is it water damaged you say my son/daughter/friend did it and didnt tell me!
Hopefully you get what i mean, for the price of the phone i hope they'd help you out a bit more |

Not a chance, there is stickers inside the phone that change colour as soon as they touch liquid. Even if they completeley dry out they still keep that colour

Hi as G said...ive been in exactly the same situation with my c905..dropped it down the toilet!
The first sticker is actually on the battery, if you look it will have a big bright red dot on it now, meaning the shop will dismiss you straight away...i tried going to the shop without knowing about this lol and looked pretty stupid.
I then took it to a repair shop, and they had it all week, they managed to get some life out of it, but they said the camera wouldn’t work properly and some of the buttons wouldn’t either, the thing is even if they fix it, it’s likely to go wrong in the future, it could be 2 weeks or 2 years, but it will eventually die as parts start to corrode from the water damage.
In the end i ended up selling it on ebay as a faulty phone...i got £155 for it, so managed to get some of my money back this way, i then brought a brand new phone WITH insurance....(only £3.50 a month!) and have now learnt a very expensive lesson!
Although if you are wanting to see where you get with your phone, take the battery out and DO NOT try and turn it on....it’s not the water that damages the phone alot of the time, it’s running electricity through the wet circuit that causes the permanent damage....again another lesson i learnt lol

Nice simple fix for a BER or water damaged phone....
Leave it in the hot press for a week. I'm not trying to be funny..... there is nothing a technician can do and you're wasting his/her and your time by sending it to a centre. If your lucky, the PCB will dry out but you won't know until it's bone dry!
Good luck!

You need to opent and dry your phone with hair-dryer in the same moment, believe i save 3 phones on that way. But i guess now is too late. sorry for poor english! |

It sounds like you tried to turn it on which is a natural reaction I suppose. The best thing to do is to turn it off as fast as possible, pull the battery out and leave it to fully dry somewhere. By fully I mean a week or more. Or as sale987 suggested open it up and dry it more quickly with a hair dryer.
In theory water wont do to much damage to most electronics if there is now current involved so if it is left to dry properly you stand a chance.
If you drop any electronic items in the sea. Turn them off and wash them fully in fresh water (pref distilled) then dry out or the salt water will corrode them.

Like the others said I hope you didn't try to turn it on because this is mostly at that moment you're killing your phone (short circuit).
