Any News on P1i Firmware? |

Towards the end of last year there were rumours of one final firmware update (a nice one) for the P1i, but I haven't heard anything since then, is there any more news? I really hope there are some truth to the rumours, the P1i could do with a final boost... |

I wouldn't count on SE bringing out new firmware for this phone. Mine's stable though, not a single issue whatsoever since I bought it last year. SE has shown a lack of foresight over the years on firmware upgrades and hasn't proven the above otherwise. Couple that with the fact that UIQ is now officially dead then you can see that SE have moved on.

Thanks, pity though, but as u say its a general thing, as soon as a new model comes out they very quickly forget about the existing one(s), Archos did the same, as soon as the media tablet range (latest) came out, there's been nothng for the 605 wifi range since May 2008...At least my P1 is very stable too, no issues at all...only frustration is that updating OPera to 9.5 installs it as a seperate programme (doesn't update the ROM version) similarly with pd+ standard...I'm sure there are other app's that are part of the ROM which have been updated since the last firmware, so u end up having 2 seperate versions of the same application, which isn't wonderful but not a train smash either I guess

Pity indeed! I also agree that having two of the same application when you can just 'write over' it is far more practical. I think Nokia is somewhat differnt in that it doesn't easily 'discard' their phones but instead brings out firmware for some of the old phones. I just think SE has some incompetent people. That's just my opinion.

There's nothing really wrong with the P1i as is, and a lot of improvements can be done by hacking anyway.
Given SE's recent track record, if they released a new update it would probably break more than it fixes anyway. |

With UIQ itself shut down and all the staff laid off, I don't suppose there's anyone at SE or elsewhere now who could actually work on such an update, even if they did feel like producing one. I think its fair to say they've drawn a line under it.

A look in the Crystal Ball says No.
The last firmware is already out.

Yes, it's a shame really. Would have been nice to get a final update that fixed the camera icon bug and sped up the messaging app a little but the phone is getting on now, devices seem to have such a short lifespan!

Hello: I am a P1i user that's been looking for the latest firmware update and read from you that it's already out. Would you point to me the direction of where it is?
Thank you. |

The last firmware is already out and you can find it on SEUS.
Here is a site with a CDA list and firmware versions.

Thank you, Maratonmannen: My question is actually more indepth than what it appears, for I don't know where the firmware is located and how to "flash" my phone.
My current firmware:
Phone: CXC162037 R9J005
Bluetooth: CXC162143 R1D
Organizer: CXC162108 R6F41
CDA: CDA162024/52 R6A
Please advise on where (a link, possibly) to download the firmware and directions to flash it. Also, if there are any precautions I should take before updating firmware, please let me know. This is my 2nd P1i as I lost my first one. The firmware is different and I couldn't "restore" the lost P1i information to the new P1i; restoration error message was in line of "incompatible phone model" even though both phones have the same "name", per se. Help where I am needed, please.
Thank you and have a blessed day.

Yeah SEUS always does the trick for flashing and updating smartphones (UIQ ).
Anyway, I also think that the latest one available on SEUS atm is stable and reliable firmware. I was using a P1 before my G900. Running always on latest firmware of course... It newer showed me any kind of weakness or serious bugs with the software.

Where/what is SEUS and the "SEUS atm"? Please advise.

SEUS is Sony Ericsson Update Service. A program developed by Sony Ericsson. Official tool for updating and reflashing phone software (firmware) no matter which phone model you have.
You can find it on www.sonyericsson.com... It is used to update your phone's firmware without using any 3rd party software. If done properly, it also wouldn't avoid your phone warranty so you should feel free to use it.
I have tested it with many different phones, including the P1 and it seems to be best for dealing with software issues with UIQ phones like the P1, G900 and etc...
P.S. Good luck using it.
