I picked up a used P1i the other day, and after copying my contacts from the SIM to the phone I was able to sort them by first and last name. I did an upgrade to the latest firmware version with SEUS, and now I can't sort the contacts. I've tried doing two upgrades but still no luck (they stay sorted by last name first). Has anyone else had this issue?

Welcome to Esato!

I assume you done it by the book? Meaning opening contacts -> More - Settings -> Sort by.

Yes. I even tried a 3rd party app (DreamConnect) and it wouldn't change the sort order either.

What happens if you choose Sort by Last name first?

Nothing since that's how they're already sorted.

weired! anyway, if i've had faced this i would've formatted the internal disk, which you'll find under service menu.

To get to service menu follow the sequence, where u means jog dial up a step and * means typing * from keypad.
u*dd*d*

caution: you'll loose anything and everything you have in phone memory after doin' this. so keep a backup if needed.

Have you checked to make sure the names in contacts are actually in seperate fields, ie first name only in that field and not the whole name?

I did. And while some are and some aren't, that did not matter prior to the upgrade. Really, it didn't! All the contacts were sorted by first name before this happened.

Try a master reset to shake thinks up.

I've already done three master resets, and two flashes of the firmware.

I have given up on trying to get the P1i to sort the contacts correctly. Does anyone know of an external, PC based software that I can use to sort them, then maybe load them back into the P1i? FMA and Outlook don't seem to support doing that.
