V640i Needs a replacement Mic. |

Hi Guys,
My mother has a V640i, she was on the phone in the rain yesterday, now the microphone's not working.. I can get one easily enough, was just wondering if anyone knows anything about dimantling the phone.. It's nothing like any of the old SEs. It has extremely rigid casing..

Don't try to dismantle the phone yourself. Its not like the older A100 phones which come apart easily. I had a V640i which the Authorised Service Centre butchered trying to take it apart. I knew a workmate who's phone got wet and died and I offered to have a look inside for them but it is impossible to open it up. I'm on my third V640i (all replaced under warranty) because SE New Zealand would rather replace the phone than try to open it.
Claim on insurance if you can or get advise from a Service Centre but don't attempt to open it yourself, you'll only wreck those chrome side plates.

I ended up butchering it before I read your post 
Anyway.. Voda handsets are horrible anyway!
To Remove the Fascia, follow these instructions.. It's actually not too hard once you know where the screws are..
Step 1: Get a Torx T6 screwdriver..
Step 2: Remove the Battery, Sim and M2 card
Step 3: Remove the 2 screws at the base of the handset
Step 4: Get a sharp knife (preferably with a good point)
Step 5: On the back of the handset, on the camera surround, there is a small hole. Leaver the knife in the hole to flick the surround off.
Step 6: Remove the third T6 screw.
Step 7: Run the knife between the chrome side plates and the top half of the back casing. (Use a knife at the beginning, then switch to a card so as not to damage or scratch the phone) The casing, will just click off.
Step 8: Remove the final two T6 screws at the top of the handset underneath the back casing you just removed.
Step 9: The same as step 7 but on the front of the phone, which will click open with a card 
I wish I knew this earlier.. Oh well!
