I am not a user of it. but i know the basics.
It recognises letters through there shape and the way they are written
for example to write I you have to start from the bottom to the top, were l is from top to bottom

As for your question about U insted of You, ya y not, it only recognises leters you if you write zsfgfsg it will still copy it the same way it's on the screen

AI: nothing is Ai yet but it half way there
Good Shit, Bad Shit, It's all Shit

Handwriting recognition is good when you get used to it,but it DOES take TIME, if you want to write "u" then just do the u shape on the screen, but i put my text in using the tiny qwerty keyboard on the screen because its faster in the long run, i have just done a small test using a timer to put a sentance in using a t9 Nokia (which i am very fast at) then a p800 using handwriting then p800 using virtual qwerty keyboard,
t9 Nokia = 34 seconds
handwriting on p800 = 50 sec (corrected 2 mistakes)
virtual keyboard p800 = 36 seconds
So you can see that virtual qwerty keyboard is best for me, note i left out multi tap on the p800 actual & virtual keypad because it`s not worth the bother/takes too long.
Also please note that t9 on a nokia was always faster than t9 on a t68i because the star button punctuation option on the nokia is way faster than t68i, so i recon that entering text on a p800 is actually FASTER than on a t68i.
