ok i received delivery of my P800 yesterday,(still to make up my mind on the hype), i've seen several people claim that there are sms delivery reports on P800 in various forums, but after 5 hours of searching through every configuration I could not find any mention of it. The problem is not with my carrier (o2) as i've had sms delivery reports on evry mobile i've owned, including pocket pc 2002 phone edition(although you had to do this individually for each sms u send). I have found that there is an option for MMs delivery and read reports. Can someone confirm once and for all what is the case with SMS delivery reports??

As of now, the P800 has no option to enable SMS delivery-reports (there might/probably will be in future releases, nonetheless). You can, however, according to your network, add certain special characters/shortwords on the beginning of your SMS, that will cause the SMSC to send you delivery reports. There might even be the possibility, again depending on the network, to activate reports generally for your number. Ask your provider about that.

@D_G
You don't actually get it... The status-messages, like "Sending message" and "Message sent" are from your device, this only means that the P800 has sent the message to the SMS-Center. BUT: You can also have status messages from the SMS-Center, that tell you whether the message was instantly delivered to the recipient or stored (which means the recipient has no coverage or the mobile off).
Better?

i guess its all the same. if the message is "sent", then it means , the recepient will get it regadless if his phone is switched off or not. my previous nokias used to show message" sent" also. i used to get this weird beep if it had not gone through.
i have never got a message where it says"delivered" on my nokia or something similar to it. only "sending" and "sent"

DG i think this feature is network dependent. Nokia phones have this feature but it is up to ur provider for you to use it.

This message was posted from a Nokia 7650

I've had a Nokia 6210, used to get an sms stating that message was delivered when it arrived at destination mobile, 6310 was a bit different, when sms was sent, a message was automatically created in the inbox which had a status of pending as far as I can remember, and once the sms arrived at the destination mobile, the messsage in the inbox updated the status to delived. Don't know what way it works with other nokias. With o2xda, sms is sent back stating that message was successfully delivered to xxxxxxxx

It sucks that there is no option to receive delivery reports automatically.

Is there anyway to request this in a future firmware release?

In Spain Vodafone the delivery report is automatic, once the person get the sms you get a flash with a " sms received" even if it takes 10 hours to that happening, in Movistar you have to add *N# and exactly the same thing etc. etc. its enough for me.

T68i has a function like that.
It can be activated/deactivated via phone's menu.
I am always using this function.

On my T68(i) I just got a little popup window whenever my message had reached the recipient, also in the sent messages folder the messages would appear with a "V" or an "X" if they were sent successfully or unsuccessfully respectively.

Why the hell can't they do the same with the P800? It really annoys me.
