You know there's more than one Xpress Music Nokia right? And some weren't released in '08. Man, I don't think any phone mentioned so far deserves to be the best.
I'd say probably the Samsung INNOV8 or Omnia.

No it's not. The N97 did not come out in 2008. It isn't even out yet.

Innov8. It really has almost everything in it(-touchscreen,toaster,projector).

iPhone 3G without a doubt. The introduction of the appstore and the lower pricing of the 3G made it the phone to beat, and nobody did. 10 million sold and each sold itself.

INNOV8 is NOT a touchscreen phone.
But my bet would be also INNOV8 because it's loaded with so much features. (8MP, High-quality and High-speed video recording, DivX, Symbian OS, 2.8 inch display, 3.5mm jack, and many more.)

I think he was being sarcastic, but did put a '-' before the touchscreen, ie minus a touchscreen, toaster and projector |

for inovation the T-Mobile G1.... no other phones released using Android OS and its very very good indeed!
But i would still choose the iPhone 3G in terms of saleability!
