K850i lens cover. what's his doing ? |

Hi. I have a stupid question (or not) about K850i. Sorry if someone asked that before.
Well, it has been 9 months until I got this phone, no problems at all, but... something it's getting me crazy.
Well, the question is... why did SE put a lens cover on it if they put an glass cover (?!) upside ? I can't understand...
The big problem is that inside that glass (between lens cover and glass), some dust has entered there and I can't remove it.
So how can I remove that glass for clean up ?
What happens if I remove that glass anyway ?
Sorry for my bad english.

You must go to the sand beach and put your phone deep into it....
you will see no more any dust from sand |

-Take the phone to a repair center so they can dissamble it and clean up the lens cover or if you know how to do it ...
-Nothing will happen, you can remove the glass and use the camera like that, i think someone here made it and it even improved the picture quality.

In theory may have been to make the entire back cover flat and glossy looking, or that SE designed a delicate auto shutter and put a piece of protective glass on top, ie. auto shutter protects the lens from sunlight and the glass protects the autoshutter.
So you have 3 options:
1. The dust won't have much noticeable effect, i got over it pretty quickly
2.If you have a SE service centre near you, they can disasemble and clean it for you
3.Get some torx screwdrivers and open it up( there are instructions if u look it up) and take off the glass and use a can of compressed air to clean up OR just forget about putting the glass bak on altogether. From what i've heard it has little adverse effect other than having it look a bit different, but you'll never have to wipe it again |

Thanks for answers, I think I'll keep it how it is now. I dont' have any services near me anyway, and I don't want to stay without my phone more than 2 days.
I hope that SE will make a camera-phone with a real auto-lens cover, like Samsung Pixon or Innov. Then I'll upgrade my phone.
I have another question. The picture quality is better if I remove that glass ? Or is getting even worse ?

i also got this problem in my previous k850, they didnt make the glass airtight thats why dust easily gets in and gathers inside the glass. i just used my nail and lifted the glass up and it came off, but i didnt notice any change in the picture quality. so if you want you can remove the glass but it will make the auto lens cover susceptible to external damage. |

Well photo quality won't improve( although i have heard people saying that there is less purple fringing). But if you remove it you won't have to worry about the protective cover being dirty which will ruin the photo quality. Since i just keep mine on i can live with wiping it down once in awhile

I tested with the protector offed, it reli much sharper (if u zoom to 1:1)
just like U add a filter to a DSLR lens, there MUST be some -ve effect....
anyway, I am a careless user when using the phone, just very affraid of breaking the auto cover....
How about clean it and hv the protect never have any dust goes inside?like this using some blue "tech" (forgot the real name )1.
2.using a cut tooth pick to have those things on position is great shape

I think it is an added protection for camera lens. I think 95% people having K850i has dust particles on their glass. No exception here. I have seen here on ESATO many months back, some people has removed their glass. After that though they have not complaint about anything but when i saw the pic of their K850i without glass, the shutter was too dirty. So i think dont play with the design, its perfect.
Edit: If you observe closely about the design, you can guess the why? Have you guys observed the blue ring light up when we start the Camera ? Actual light is not round but only one small blue led near the glass. Its only the reflection of light result of that we see a blue ring. So if you remove that glass, your blue ring will also gone. So it is for good mesmerising effect and added protection as well for mech. shutter.

Yep, also there is some coating on both side of the protection piece, but reli dont know whether the coating is used to reduce reflection due to the piece itself or other special uses (UV cut? but a Digital sensor do not need that I mean other protection and decoration only) |

You are right. Thats the UV coating. It helps protect the lens from UV light and almost all digicams have this.
Its best to have it, coz it protects the lens and also the autoshutter.
And YOU SHOULD BE EXTREMELY CAREFULL while cleaning/handling with it.
NEVER USE A CLOTH to clean it, cos it gets foggy, becos of the moister. use compressed air if available...
Me too got this problem few months back, the glass would really get dusty. But i got it cleaned carefully and sealed it with light adhesive around it. btw recently a very tiny pric of dust got in, don't know how, but still its better than before..
