I have been in contact with TomTom support...
Me:
Are TomTom not supporting Navigator 6 anymore?
I have a SE P1i and could do with updating my maps I think as they seem to miss alot of the recent road changes.
I get your emails telling me all about the new maps, discounts and other produicts available - but nothing seems to be for Navigator 6!
When I go to Home to find out about maps it just tells me there is a new version of Home that I should download.
At the beginning of the install it tells me that the new version does not support mobile phones. Elsewhere you site tells me that Navigator 7 is supported.
As far as I can tell the most recent version for Navigator 6 maps is 675 which I read on the forums was 'new' more than a year ago.
So even if I could get your site to sell me the latest map I would be getting one more than a year old! - Seems a lot of money for an out of date map!
Could you tell me the situation in reality and if I am mistaken in any of my information please?
Many Thanks
TomTom Support:
The mail you recieved is for the all in one models which we have. However your correct, there has not been any upgrades for a long time for nav 6, because there are soon to be launched a nav 7 and therefore not making maps for the nav 6. And your correct 6.75 map is the "latest" map for nav 6.
Me:
OK so TomTom basically are not supporting Nav 6 anymore?
Will Nav 6 be upgraded to Nav 7 for free? - or will the Nav 7 maps work with Nav 6?
What is TomToms plan for support to Nav 6 users?
Thanks
TomTom Support:
We will still support and do troubleshooting with nav 6. However there will not be upgrades for nav anymore.
I cant say how much nav 7 will costs. But i dont think it will be free
Me:
This is a bit concerning!
I like Nav 6 it works well apart from the map needing to be updated.
If TomTom are not going to provide updated maps to support Nav 6 users - then my TomTom becomes almost useless.
If I buy Nav 7 how long will TomTom keep supporting this - another year or 2 until Nav 8 comes out and then I have to buy yet another new product????
You can see my concerns here I am sure!
TomTom Support:
Yes im aware of your conercern, however unfortunatly your correct. I dont know why we dont make new maps for nav6, perhaps because our new maps requie more of the hardware on the devices and therefor the system will be unstabel with our new maps might be the reason
So What is happening? TomTom are just dumping Nav 6 users because we are uneconomical???
There used to be a guy on here worked for TomTom... Are you there???
Any ideas anyone?
