Risk of modded Acoustics |

I would like to know if there is any risk on using a modded acoustic driver, for example if it can damage the speaker or shorten its life.
I don't really understand why SE doesn't make their phones sound louder if its possible, I think there must be a reason for that.
Thanks |

Which phone do you have? Generally, none of the modders develop acoustic to damage ur speaker. So no need to worry. BTW everyone has their own taste. I dont like very loud acoustics bcoz they are uncomfortable.

The biggest risk is damaging your ears.
SE and other manufacturers are limiting the volume output way too much, mainly because there is international legislation on this. They just don't want to get sued for damaging our ears.
But the only mod able to hurt my ears on high volumes untill now is SoundModLite on G900.
Say max. output on standard SE phones is about 75dB; painlevel is at 95dB and higher. A good headset should play at 95dB without distortion. So if SE would set max. output at about 92dB, we could listen to music with much better dynamics. Now all standard SE phones, even Walkmans, have a muffled sound. Too bad, because there's a lot of music potential in SE phones. SoundModLite proved this to me. Not just high volume possible, but also great dynamics and clearity.
I also modded my C702 (Luhcass acoustics), but it's still not as loud and clear as my G900 with SML. Still waiting for better mods.
Oh yeah, I guess I already damaged my ears in the eighties with an analog Walkman. But now I'm an adult and hurting my ears is my responsibility, not SE's. Just an opinion.

Yess...I think that the original sound of Nokia seems to be harder than SE .....

i have been using modded acoustic in all of my phones for a long time... None of the got damaged, so no need to worry. Find the acoustics you like and the phone will be fine with them.

Thanks, I just want to make my c702 speaker sound a bit louder. For the hearphones I don't need more. So I am going to look for some modded acoustics and try.
Thanks again. |

They can surely cause damage over time. Once I was playing music through my W910 speaker with original acoustics, I could feel the speaker region getting warmer meaning that the speaker can warm up.
Secondly, modded acoustics can cause damage to your eardrums. Once I tried one that was intended to increase the volume slightly. I don't remember its name and where I got it. Well that day I was nodding off in my couch listening to my favorite techno songs at a reasonable volume in earphones but I had never expected this to happen. That f.cking acoustic did increase the ringtone like hell and the text message ringtone exploded my eardrums. Since then I rolled back to the original drivers.

All things that run on electricity will warm up. This is only bad if a critical temperature is reached (and burning starts), which is very unlikely to happen with a phone speaker unless wiring is bad.
C702 has a very loud backspeaker, quality is OK but nothing compared to a good headset. And a good headset can have much higher volumes than SE phones provide.
It's not just the low volume on SE-phones that p*ss me off, but also the bad dynamics. But it's good to now this is about software so modding is possible.
As I said, many headsets can play music at painlevel without distortion, so I can't imagine blowing up a good headset with a phone.
I got distortion playing music at loudest volume on my C702, and with the same headset, same music at a much higher volume on G900, I didn't get distortion. So I concluded this distortion wasn't a hardware matter, but a software problem.
This software problem we have thanks to people who don't take their own responsibility and sue companies for damage they really did to themselves. (Shouldn't there be a law that knives must be blunt?)

I found somethis that is related to this. Apparently all electronic devices are affected by electromigration, and asking them for more makes it affect them more.
So maybe sony ericsson limit the speakers power just to make them last longer.
Have you ever heard of people that change acoustics and then after some time they find that they phones sound less than when the have the standar ones?
Take a look at here to know about electromigration:
