I've just read some comments around esato about people having gripes about the C905's SMS software. They seeem to have these problems on both branded and unbranded phones.

It looks like SE have had a whole new SMS handler written, and it's either been rushed, or built by fools who don't understand how it should work.

SMS is the primary use for my phone. I'm so unhappy with the new SMS software that I'm not keeping the phone. Girlfriend can have it. Or I'll Ebay it and put the money to buying another K800, which was and remains a flawless victory.

Here's my list of the flaws I've seen in the C905 SMS software which make it nothing short of an epic fail;

No ability to have your list of messages in Inbox displayed as NAME and TIME/DATE as before. Now anyone looking at my inbox gets treated to the first line of the text.

DRAFTS, SENT MESSAGES, SETTINGS and more are all now located in a further depth of menu, instead of in the same level as INBOX previously. No need for that.

User pics of an incoming message are always flashed to your screen. Previously this was a selectable choice.

In the editor:

When typing, a floating box of available/possible characters for the key you've just pressed appears RIGHT OVER WHERE YOU'RE WRITING. This used to be neatly done up in the top status bar of the screen. Not only is this annoying, but if you're editing mid-sentence, your view of nearby text is blocked.

When typing, if you press * to change between upper case/lower case so as to use a capital for a name etc, the indicator flips straight through "Aa" back to "a". A second press is needed to get it on to "Aa"

If you insert an animation, the cursor now appears ON THE LINE ABOVE WHERE YOU'RE TYPING! Now, anyone with a brain can still type and edit with a bit of effort, but it gets worse - the cursor may in fact disappear altogether! Honestly, who tested this stuff out?

I've also read about messages failing when sent to too many recipients. I haven't tested for this myself yet, but it's not hard to believe given the half hearted effort of the interface now.

So there you go, hopefully a future software update will fix these infuriating faults but I'm not that patient, so on to Ebay it goes!

I've written this up so that others can know they're not alone, that it's not Just Their Phone, and that it's not because of anything they're doing wrong.

PS - animation when scrolling menus and icon animation in the root menu is also weak next to the creamy smooth scrolling on my K800i, but that's not about SMS so I'll just tag it on here as a parting shot.

Mate you are EXTREMELY CORRECT! I couldn't believe it! I switched to C905 from k800 expecting anything good from k800 would remain, maybe even become better! How the HELL can there not be such a basic ability to list SMSes to name, date and time? And every Tom Dick and Harry can now read what are sometimes very confidential messages.

There are lots of things, yo've listed them all. Even simple thing, the ability to get back to main screen or save drafts by pressing and holding soft keys is gone!

I hope that someone has figured out a way to tweak this. Unlike a Symbian there aren't a lot of software to tweak things just the way you want!

Hi Daviep

That doesn't solve the problem. Arranging by date gives you boxes of Months. It doesn't order it like in previous phones where you can see at a glance the name of sender, date and time. Which I think is pretty basic. Kinda like how Nokia doesn't have a Contact list that displays highlighted contacts with phone numbers; youve got to go in to look. Equally stupid I think to not have such basic functions.

Ever since they added Conversations view, I have not looked at the regular list view a single time.
