My Old, out of warranty but completely undamaged K800i suddenly developed a very dark screen. In daylight I needed a torch to read the screen which, apart from the stygian darkness, works well in every other respect.
Anyway last week I bought a brand new K800i (the "New K800i") because I feel it is the best phone for me. I have found it has the best battery standy time of any regular mobile / Cellular / Handy phone I know - that is since the demise of my old Nokia 6310i.
However, I am still very interested in fixing my old K800i, as a hobby really. I have put a new screen in the old K800i but this has not fixed the very Dark Screen problem. I have updated the flash / EPROM/ software trying both Sony Ericsson and Wotan versions but it makes no difference.
I wonder, is it possible for one to fit the Screen->"Motherboard" multi-connector plug say 0.25mm out of alignment with the recipient socket so that the plug appears to fit snugly but the wiring connections are in fact, say, one wire out of alignment. If so would that have the effect of making the LCD screen dark but operate perfectly in every other respect ?
The old K800i is long out of warranty.
Any steer would be much appreciated.
